NEW CONNECTIONS CLASS AND KNOWING GOD CLASS STARTING   Pastor Besel is starting a new session of his “Knowing God” class.   It will begin on Thursday, January 18, at 6:30 PM in Classroom 1.  It will meet on Thursday evenings for about 10 weeks.  We will look at what the Bible says about who God is and then look at the Bible from Genesis to Revelation to see what God does.  Special focus will be on the Trinity, Creation, the Fall, the Covenant, and End Times.  A new “Connections Class” will begin on Sunday morning, January 28, during the Sunday School hour (probably in Classroom 6).  This class is for new members, for people who want to join the congregation, for members who want to review the very basics of our faith, and for people who want to know more about Lutherans.  Through this class, we connect with each other, with God, and with the congregation.  We will look at God’s Grace, the Means of Grace (God’s Word, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper), and the Church.  You can find details and sign up for either class on the bulletin board in the hallway outside pastor’s office.

THE LUTHERAN HOUR   Today on KURM (790 AM) at 12:30 P.M. & The Bott Radio Network at 8 A.M. on 89.3 F.M  "Breaking News!" Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer  Epiphany calls us to believe that the Light has come into the world. A New Year's message about confidence, if you'll believe it!
(Isaiah 60:1-6 "Arise, shine, for your light has come.")

LEADERS’ RETREAT   A reminder to all our church leaders, we have our annual Leader’s Retreat this Saturday from 8:30 – 12:30 to make plans for this coming year.  If you cannot make it, please let Pastor Besel or the church office know.

OFFERING ENVELOPES FOR 2018 have been placed at the Giving Center in the Narthex.  Pick yours up today.  If you can’t find yours or if you are a regular attender and want envelopes, see Dean Eisma or the church office.

CRAFT DAY   Do you need some time to just sit, relax and craft?  Saturday, Jan. 13th from 2-9pm we will be hosting a crafting event in the Life Center. Bring whatever you want to work on...scrapbooking, knitting, paper crafting or painting, you name it! Everyone will get their own 6ft table to work on. Bring a snack to share, drinks will be provided. Come and go as your schedule allows. Mission Crafts table will be set up if anyone wants to help make Scripture books. Happy Crafting!

THE LUTHERAN WITNESS  We need to get our list of subscribers submitted to the Lutheran Witness.  Yearly subscriptions run from April 1 through March 31.  If you are currently a subscriber, it is time to renew your subscription.  Cost per subscription is $15.00.  Please let the church office know if you want to continue or cancel your subscription.

USED CHRISTMAS CARDS  Remember to save your greeting cards after the holiday for Mission Crafts.  We recycle them to make cards for the rack and Scripture books.  In 2017 we gave out over 200 Scripture books, as well as hosting a craft table at the Trunk or Treat event for children to make their own Scripture books.  We can’t do it without your cards to work with.  Thank you for sharing.  We can also use old scrapbooking supplies, double stick tape, glue or other crafts stuff you want to clean out at home, as well as plastic grocery and shopping bags.  Items can be placed in the Mission Crafts bin in the narthex.  Thank You.

LIFE QUOTES:  Our happiness, therefore, does not depend on a new year or a changed situation, but upon the Lord and our changed relationship, our deepened growth, in Him and in terms of His will for us … ‘Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you’ (Matthew 6:33 KJV).”  R. J. Rushdoony, philosopher, historian, and theologian  If you wish to support Lutherans for Life,  go to their web site: www.lutherans for life.org

TO THINK ABOUT …  “God became man to turn creatures into sons: not simply to produce better men of the old kind but to produce a new kind of man”   (C. S. Lewis).

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEAR  Baptism of Our Lord – John’s Baptism convicted every human being – “all the country of Judea” (Mark 1:5). No physical incapacities excused anyone. Jesus’ Baptism consecrates every human being. God, in giving His Son, identifies with us at our weakest and embraces us at our worst. Even when we don’t resemble anything our Maker intended, He doesn’t call us “unwanted” or “better off dead.” Instead He declares, “You are my beloved [child]; with you I am well pleased” (Mark 1:11). In this newness of life (Romans 6:4), Christians can also welcome the least among us. Lord, construct Your kingdom of little ones like us. Amen.
