UNITY SUNDAY   Following our worship service this morning, we invite you to join us in the Life Center for an HTY (Holy Trinity Youth) Café and Voters’ meeting.  The Youth will be serving up a build your own taco/fajita/salad bar.   It will have Salsa, Cheese Dip, chicken, beef, lettuce, tomato’s and on and on!  As an option there will be Chicken Tortilla Soup and of course the usual burgers and nuggets.  There will be a free-will offering to support the Youth activities here at Holy Trintiy.

Besides year end reports, the church council is recommending to the Voters that we enter into a one-year agreement with Camp War Eagle for them to hold five 2-week camps at our facilities this summer.   The council is also recommending to the Voters that we spend up to $5,000 from the General Fund (non-budgeted) to upgrade televisions in the narthex, cry room and Sunday School rooms along with carts, cameras, DVD’s as needed.

We encourage you to join us after church today.

THANK YOU To those who participated in the annual cookie walk held last Sunday and to those who made cookies for the event. A total of $295.00 was raised. Funds will go to support our Food Pantry.

LUTHER QUOTE FOR THE WEEK  In this Gospel you see the mother of Christ directly the servants away from herself and unto Christ, telling them “Whatever he says to you, do it.” To this word alone you must direct everyone, if you would direct aright; so that this word of Mary is and ought be, a daily saying in Christendom, destroying all doctrines of men and women and everything not really Christ’s Word.  ( Church Postils, Epiphany 2)

GIRLS LUNCH OUT Is scheduled for this Thursday the 19th at the Atlanta Bread Company beginning at 11:30 am. Please sign up on bulletin board and come join us for great food, fellowship and lots of fun!

MISSION U  has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 11th at Holy Trinity from 9:00am-2:00pm.  This free seminar is entitled “’Equipping To Share: Tough Questions.”  Participants will learn how to classify, identify, and get to the root of tough questions and objections to Christianity, and practice giving sensitive and relevant answers that point to the Savior, suing messages of “Law” and “Gospel” as appropriate.  Lunch will be provided. Childcare is available with prior arrangement.  Call the Church office to register or sign up on the bulletin board in the Narthex.  In order to get lunches ordered, we ask that you contact the Church office no later than Tuesday, February 7th.

LIFE QUOTES  “Every life has value because every life is someone created by God, redemmed by the blood of Jesus, and someone He either has called or wants to call into an eternal relationship with Him. It doesn’t have to be complicated! Amen.”

Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, former executive director of Lutherans For Life.  If you want to support this ministry, you may do so through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

ALTAR FLOWERS  There are still several Sundays open if you would like to sponsor flowers for our altar.  The cost is $60 for both bouquets or $ 30 for one.  This cost includes tax. Please write your name and the reason for the flowers (including dates), if you have one, on the flower chart in the hallway near the restrooms.  We then ask you to put the money in the offering around the time you have signed up for – marking it for the altar flowers.

Determining Life Spans

God created the mule, and told him "You will be mule, working constantly from dusk to dawn, carrying heavy loads on your back.  You will eat grass and lack intelligence.  You will live for 50 years.  The mule answered, "To live like this for 50 years is too much.

Please, give me no more than 20."  And so it was so.

Then God created the dog and told him, "You will hold vigilance over the dwellings of Man, to whom you will be his greatest companion.  You will eat his table scraps and live for 25 years."  And the dog responded,  "Lord, to live 25 years as a dog like that is too much.  Please, no more than 10 years."  And so it was so.

God then created the monkey and told him, "You are monkey.  You shall swing from tree to tree, acting like an idiot.  You will be funny, and you shall live for 20 years."  And the Monkey responded, "Lord to live for 20 years as the clown of the world is too much.  Please, Lord,  give me no more than 10 years."  And it was so.

Finally, God created Man and told him, "You are Man, the only rational being that walks the earth. You will use your intelligence to have mastery over the creatures of the world.  You will dominate the earth and live for 20 years."  An the man responded,  "Lord, to be Man for only 20 years is too little.  Please, Lord, give me the 20 years the mule refused, then the 15 years the dog refused, and the 10 years the monkey rejected."  And it was so.

And so God made Man to live 20 years as a man, then marry and live 20 years like a mule working and carrying heavy loads on his back.  Then he is to have children and live 15 years as a dog, guarding his house and eating the leftovers after they empty the pantry; then in his old age, to live 10 years as a monkey, acting like an idiot to amuse his grandchildren.   And it is so.
