ASH WEDNESDAY   We have two services scheduled for the beginning of Lent.  10:00 AM and 7:00 PM.  Both are Holy Communion services and include the imposition of ashes.  The evening will start off with a Lenten meal from 5:30 – 6:30pm.  This week’s meal is chili and cornbread and is sponsored by the Fellowship Ministry Team and the Card Group.   A special thank you to Shirley Bernthal for using a Thrivent Action Team to help with the cost of the meal.  All donations collected at the meal will be given to Pastor JD Zischke to help with the new mission plant in Fayetteville.

LENTEN DEVOTION BOOKLETS   We are again providing the Lenten Devotion books from the Lutheran Hour Ministries.  Help yourself to as many as you can use or share.  They are in the Narthex.  They are also available through our website online or for an e-reader (pdf file).

YOUTH – LinkT Sr High Retreat Feb 9th-11th, this coming weekend.  Ever wanted to shoot a bow and arrow? What about a cannon? Well here is your chance. This retreat for Sr High will be focused on warfare, specifically the spiritual kind that wages in the hearts and minds of all, while we play games, worship, and shoot some arrows along the way. With special guest speaker, Kyle Blake, who has an urban ministry in Long Beach, California. Registration was due January 19th. Talk to Cameron for more details. Cost will be $50.

CONDOLENCES   We would like to offer our sympathy to Sabrina Isbell whose Granny, Lois Meekins, died Monday evening.    We also extend our condolences to Sharon Davis whose friend Lelia died on Wednesday morning.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH  

Hearts struggle and suffer when Satan suggests death to them (Mark 1:32). Often they feel “[m]y way is hidden from the Lord” and believe “my right is disregarded by my God” (Isaiah 40:27). With empathy like Apostle Paul (1 Corinthians 9:19-22), imitating Lord Jesus, we have been healed to intercede. We can approach and assist knowing that His wings of forgiveness and everlasting resurrection (Isaiah 40:28-31) will likewise lift them from their afflictions.  Loving God, include us in Your servanthood that increases strength to the powerless. UNITY SUNDAY   A Voters’ Meeting and HTY Café will follow our Unity Sunday service this morning.  We hope you can join us for the HTY Cafe.  All proceeds from the free will offering will support our youth ministry here at Holy Trinity.  The menu will include pork brisket, smoked by the Boy Scouts, with a variety of options including plated separate which come with mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and a roll or as sliders on Hawaiian Rolls with sweet potatoes fries.  There will also be a chicken salad or BBQ pork salad option, hamburgers, chicken nuggets, and fries.  The Voters’ Meeting business includes nominations for the District Convention. 

NEW CONNECTIONS CLASS STARTS NEXT SUNDAY   A new “Connections Class” will begin next Sunday, January 28 during the Sunday School hour, from 9:30-10:30, in Classroom 6.  This class is for new members, for people who want to join the congregation, for members who want to review the very basics of our faith, and for people who want to know more about Lutherans.  Through this class, we connect with each other, with God, and with the congregation.  We will look at God’s Grace, the Means of Grace (God’s Word, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper), and the Church.  You can find details and sign up for either class on the bulletin board in the hallway outside pastor’s office.  Feel free to join us even if you didn’t sign up.  There is still room in the “Knowing God” class that meets Thursday evenings at 6:30 in Classroom 1.

USED CHRISTMAS CARDS  Remember to save your greeting cards after the holiday for Mission Crafts.  We recycle them to make cards for the rack and Scripture books.  In 2017 we gave out over 200 Scripture books, as well as hosting a craft table at the Trunk or Treat event for children to make their own Scripture books.  We can’t do it without your cards to work with.  Thank you for sharing.  We can also use old scrapbooking supplies, double

stick tape, glue or other crafts stuff you want to clean out at home, as well as plastic grocery and shopping bags.  Items can be placed in the Mission Crafts bin in the narthex.  Thank You.

NEW CONNECTIONS CLASS AND KNOWING GOD CLASS STARTING   Pastor Besel is starting a new session of his “Knowing God” class.   It will begin this Thursday, January 18, at 6:30 PM in Classroom 1.  It will meet on Thursday evenings for about 10 weeks.  We will look at what the Bible says about who God is and then look at the Bible from Genesis to Revelation to see what God does.  Special focus will be on the Trinity, Creation, the Fall, the Covenant, and End Times.  A new “Connections Class” will begin on Sunday morning, January 28, during the Sunday School hour (probably in Classroom 6).  This class is for new members, for people who want to join the congregation, for members who want to review the very basics of our faith, and for people who want to know more about Lutherans.  Through this class, we connect with each other, with God, and with the congregation.  We will look at God’s Grace, the Means of Grace (God’s Word, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper), and the Church.  You can find details and sign up for either class on the bulletin board in the hallway outside pastor’s office.

HTY CAFE - JAN 21ST  We hope you can join us for the HTY Cafe next week. All proceeds from the free will offering will support our youth ministry here at Holy Trinity. The menu will include pork brisket, smoked by the Boy Scouts, with a variety of options including plated separate or sandwich, both of which come with mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and a roll.  There will also be a chicken salad or BBQ pork salad option, hamburgers, chicken nuggets, and fries.

PULLMANN CHRISTMAS CARD CLARIFICATION  There has been some confusion over the Pullmann Christmas card this year and I do apologize for that.  The mention of a "Toothless" refers to a stray cat that has been, a little unwillingly, added to the family.  Nothing more.  Sorry for any confusion.  Happy New Year!

YOUTH – LinkT Sr High Retreat Feb 9th-11th.  Ever wanted to shoot a bow and arrow? What about a cannon? Well here is your chance. This retreat for Sr High will be focused on warfare, specifically the spiritual kind that wages in the hearts and minds of all, while we play games, worship, and shoot some arrows along the way. With special guest speaker, Kyle Blake, who has an urban ministry in Long Beach, California. Registration is due January 19th. Talk to Cameron for more details. Cost will be $50.

USED CHRISTMAS CARDS  Remember to save your greeting cards after the holiday for Mission Crafts.  We recycle them to make cards for the rack and Scripture books.  In 2017 we gave out over 200 Scripture books, as well as hosting a craft table at the Trunk or Treat event for children to make their own Scripture books.  We can’t do it without your cards to work with.  Thank you for sharing.  We can also use old scrapbooking supplies, double stick tape, glue or other crafts stuff you want to clean out at home, as well as plastic grocery and shopping bags.  Items can be placed in the Mission Crafts bin in the narthex.  Thank You.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEAR Can anything good come (John 1:46) from surprise pregnancy? How about from defending embryos? From chronic suffering? Incapacitated or unresponsive persons? Truly, truly! Jesus has bought these bodies and lives for God with His own blood (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). NEW CONNECTIONS CLASS AND KNOWING GOD CLASS STARTING   Pastor Besel is starting a new session of his “Knowing God” class.   It will begin on Thursday, January 18, at 6:30 PM in Classroom 1.  It will meet on Thursday evenings for about 10 weeks.  We will look at what the Bible says about who God is and then look at the Bible from Genesis to Revelation to see what God does.  Special focus will be on the Trinity, Creation, the Fall, the Covenant, and End Times.  A new “Connections Class” will begin on Sunday morning, January 28, during the Sunday School hour (probably in Classroom 6).  This class is for new members, for people who want to join the congregation, for members who want to review the very basics of our faith, and for people who want to know more about Lutherans.  Through this class, we connect with each other, with God, and with the congregation.  We will look at God’s Grace, the Means of Grace (God’s Word, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper), and the Church.  You can find details and sign up for either class on the bulletin board in the hallway outside pastor’s office.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEAR  Baptism of Our Lord – John’s Baptism convicted every human being – “all the country of Judea” (Mark 1:5). No physical incapacities excused anyone. Jesus’ Baptism consecrates every human being. God, in giving His Son, identifies with us at our weakest and embraces us at our worst. Even when we don’t resemble anything our Maker intended, He doesn’t call us “unwanted” or “better off dead.” Instead He declares, “You are my beloved [child]; with you I am well pleased” (Mark 1:11). Christmas Carol History

For many people, Christmas is just one night or one day.  The truth is that the Holy Christian Church has celebrated Christ’s birth for the twelve days between Christmas (December 25) and Epiphany (January 6).  Usually when we think of the Twelve Days of Christmas, we think of the song by that name.  What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially that partridge who won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?  From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not allowed to practice their faith openly.  Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.  It has two levels of meaning; the surface meaning, plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church.  Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality, which the children could remember.

1.  The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

2.  Two turtledoves were the Old and New Testaments.

3.  Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

4.  The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

5.  The Five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

6.  The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

7.  Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit: Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

8.  The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

9.  Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruit of the Holy Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control.

10.  The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.

11.  Eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

12.  Twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

So there is your history lesson for today and now you know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol!

CHRISTMAS SERVICES    Because today is Christmas Eve we are having only one service this Sunday morning.  Sunday School and Bible Classes are at 8:45 with our worship service at 10:00 AM.  The Christmas Eve Family Service of Lessons and Carols will be at 7 PM tonight.  Each family is invited to bring a candle and holder to place on the tables up front to represent their family during the Candle lighting part of the service.  Tomorrow we celebrate Christ’s Mass – a special Communion Service to celebrate the birth of Jesus at 10 AM.

Campus CONNECTion  Care packages were sent out to all of our college students (that we have addresses for) just in time for finals.  The students appreciated them VERY much!  Thank you to Christy Lehenbauer for providing an Action Team to help pay for the shipping costs.  Thank you to those who donated restaurant gift cards – each student received a gift card in their care package.  A special THANK YOU to those who financially support this outreach; we were able to include $10 gas cards in each care package to help with the cost of coming home for the holidays!  And last, but certainly not least, THANK YOU to Shirley Bernthal for baking homemade cookies for the care packages.  If you would like to support this ministry, please sign up on the bulletin board in the Narthex or contact Casey Bolte.

CRAFT DAY   Do you need some time to just sit, relax and craft?  Saturday, Jan. 13th from 2-9pm we will be hosting a crafting event in the Life Center. Bring whatever you want to work on...scrapbooking, knitting, paper crafting or painting, you name it! Everyone will get their own 6ft table to work on. Bring a snack to share, drinks will be provided. Come and go as your schedule allows. Mission Crafts table will be set up if anyone wants to help make Scripture books. Happy Crafting!

THE CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS SERVICE is this Wednesday at 7 PM.  The children of our Sunday School will be presenting a program entitled “Operation Baby King.”  There is an Advent Supper served in the Life Center by the Youth from 5:30-6:45.

Merry CHRISTmas SIGNS   The Outreach Ministry Team is providing signs for people to put up in their yards this Advent – Christmas season like we have the crosses for the Lenten season.  Pick up your sign in the Narthex and share your faith in Jesus.

CHRISTMAS SERVICES NEXT WEEKEND   Because Christmas Eve is next Sunday, we will be having only one service on Sunday morning.  Sunday School and Bible Classes will be at 8:45 with our worship service at 10:00 AM.  The Family Service of Lessons and Carols will then be at 7 PM Christmas Eve.  Each family is invited to bring a candle and holder to place on the tables up front to represent their family during the Candlelighting part of the service.  Christ’s Mass – A Communion Service to celebrate the birth of Jesus will at 10 AM on Christmas morning.

WHERE’S PASTOR BESEL?  Pastor and Shirley Besel are in Colorado this weekend to attend the graduation ceremonies for their daughter Angie from Physical Therapy School.  They will be flying back to Dallas Sunday afternoon and driving home on Monday.

CARD RACK FUNDRAISER   Check out the card selection in the rack in the narthex. We've added some new ones, as well as quite a few Christmas cards. Take the cards you need and then make a donation to the Holy Trinity Food Pantry and place it in the offering basket. This is a year-round Mission Crafts activity to help raise funds to feed the hungry who come to our church for help.

Christmas Reminders

Christmas has become extremely commercialized. Everywhere we look we see Christmas trees, lights, presents, signs enticing us to buy this or that for the people on our lists. But let’s try to keep our thoughts focused on the real meaning of the season.

When we see a wreath, let's remember that God's love is never ending.

When we see the lights, let's remember that Jesus is the light of the world.

When we see candles, let's remember that our lights, however small, shine brightly enough to spread to those around us.

When we see presents, let's remember that God gave us the greatest gift of all in His Son, Jesus Christ.

When we see a Christmas tree, let's remember a tree on top of a hill called Calvary.

When we see snow, let's remember the One who cleanses our sins in a way that makes them pure white.

When we sing carols, let's remember the importance of making a joyful noise unto the Lord.

When we sit down to Christmas dinner, let's remember that Jesus is the bread of life.

When we see all those around us in need, whether physically, financially, emotionally, or spiritually, let's remember that Christmas really shouldn't be limited to one season of the year. God's gift was for all seasons. And, every time we share that gift, it's Christmas!

LADIES ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT

ADVENT MEAL  Join us Wednesday, December 6th from 5:30 – 6:30 pm for a meal before our evening Advent service.  This week’s meal is Spaghetti, Salad, and Garlic Bread and is sponsored by the Music Ministry and Praise band.  All donations collected at the meal will be given to the Office of Human Concern to be used in their community outreach which includes Meals on Wheels, utility assistance programs, and senior activity centers.

PROJECT YES I CAN 2018 starts today.  And, just what is Project Yes I Can?  If you check the bulletin board in the Narthex you will find signup sheets that will add your name to the lists of persons willing to help in various ways to enhance worship here at Holy Trinity.  We need Greeters, Readers, Video Operators, Lead and Assistant Counters, and Office Help.  If you marked these positions on your Time and Talent sheet, we probably already have you listed.  Many hands make light work, so volunteer and make a difference.  Job descriptions are available if needed.  If you have questions, your dedicated office staff will be happy to answer them.

FLOWER CHART    The new Flower Chart for 2018 has been put up in the hall near the bathrooms.  Please sign up for the Sunday(s) you want to sponsor (and include the reason if it is for a special purpose).  The cost each Sunday is $60 per Sunday or $30 per bouquet if you want to split the Sunday with someone.  Take one of the flower envelopes from the board and place it in the offering plate.  It would be helpful is you write down the date for the Sunday for which you are providing the flowers.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

November is here and that means; it is time to start packing shoe boxes for children around the world! Check the Narthex for lists of appropriate items and make sure to bring in any shoeboxes you have. Packing dates are November 16 and 17 from 5-7pm and November 18 starting at 1pm, so mark your calendar. Food will be provided for those who help. If you have any questions, talk to Cameron.

PASTOR BESEL GONE   Pastor and Shirley Besel will be taking a couple of days of vacation this week to attend the wedding of their nephew, Travis Besel, on Friday in St. Louis.  They will leave on Thursday and return on Saturday.  If you are in need of pastoral care, contact your elder or Pastor Bernthal.

2018 PLEDGES   If you have not returned your financial commitment form for 2018 or your updated Time and Talent forms to the office, please do so this week.  The budget committee will be meeting soon to work on the budget for next year and needs an idea of what people are planning to give.

DAYSPRING ANNUAL WAREHOUSE SALE  Each year on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday before Thanksgiving week, Day Spring hosts their annual warehouse sale in Siloam Springs.  Dates for this year are Thursday through Saturday, November 16-18.  The sale will be at Day Spring’s warehouse building across from their headquarters at 21153 Highway 16 East, Siloam Springs.  While the theme focuses primarily on Christmas items, they also have non-holiday items available.  Many products are offered at huge discounts of 50-80 %.  During the sale, the Day Spring Ministry Team will sponsor a coat drive for children and adults to benefit Potter’s House.

COMMITMENT SUNDAY NEXT WEEK   Next Sunday we will be concluding our stewardship series on “Empowered by Grace” with our commitment Sunday.  This week, we will be mailing to each family a letter with a Commitment Form, a Time and Talent sheet, a two-sided chart for giving and an envelope for you to return your Commitment Form and Time and Talent sheet(s) to the church.  We will be bringing these to the altar as part of our service next Sunday.  If you don’t get a letter or need more forms, contact the church office.

TRUNK OR TREAT  Don’t forget to sign up in the Narthex for your trunk or trunks! Remember that decoration is not required but we do have prizes for the three best-decorated trucks so start looking for cool ideas and deals to make your trunk the best! If decorating isn’t your thing, there are lots of other opportunities to help; like serving the meal or supervising the games. Talk to Cameron if you have any questions.

YOUTH HIKE AT HOBBS  Attention Youth and Families! Its not to late to sign up for our hike today at Hobbs State Park. We will be leaving after second service, around 12:15p or so. It is ‘Bring Your Own Lunch’ and make sure you bring a water container. We should be back before 5:00pm. Talk to Cameron if you have any questions.

NEW WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY STARTS TODAY   This Sunday the Women's Bible Study will start a new study, THE PATRIARCHS:  ENCOUNTERING THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, ISAAC, AND JACOB, by Beth Moore.  The study has both DVDs and a workbook. Workbooks can be purchased at LifeWay Christian Store.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)  Our classes are overflowing.  We are trying to reach as many students as possible, but find we could really use a couple of individuals to help us out.  Spanish language skills would be helpful, but are not necessary.  If you are available Monday and/or Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m., please call Peggy Jones at (479) 633-2050.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Sam’s Club has Christmas trees up and we all know what that means; its time to start packing shoe boxes for children around the world! Check the Narthex for lists of appropriate items and make sure to bring in any shoe boxes you have. Packing dates are November 16 and 17 from 5-7pm and Nover 18 starting at 1pm. Food will be provided for those who help. If you have any questions, talk to Cameron.

GIRL’S LUNCH OUT  October 19th at Zoe’s Kitchen, 4007 W. Walnut.  This is a fairly new restaurant that none of us have tried, so this will be an adventure as well as a fun time.  Sign-up sheet is posted in the Narthex. 

TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH OPEN HOUSE  All are invited to the Lutheran Camp on Petit Jean for an open house at the historic Trinity Lutheran Church today, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. The second and final phase of the historic restoration of the church is nearly complete. The church, which sits on the camp property, was built in 1886. Fellowship and refreshments will follow in the camp dining hall, along with a report on other changes at the Lutheran Camp. Those planning to attend are asked to call or email ahead of time so there is plenty of food: director@lutherancamp.org; 501-652-6304.

INSTALLATION AT FAITH, BENTONVILLE   The members of Holy Trinity are invited to join the people at Faith Lutheran Church in Bentonville this afternoon at 4:00 PM as they install Rev. Neil Vanderbush as their new pastor.  Pastor Vanderbush and his wife Holly served their vicarage at Faith.  He then planted Messiah Lutheran Church in Pea Ridge as a mission of Faith Lutheran.  

HELPING HANDS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED  The next day for our congregation to support Helping Hands is this Saturday, October 14th. Helping Hands is a congregation-supported organization that sells donated goods in order to buy food and cover other expenses for those in need. They routinely provide food for nearly 100 families a day and they need our help to support this important community effort. A sign up sheet is available in the Narthex, or you can contact Dave Ferguson for more information.

PASTOR BERNTHAL’S BIBLE STUDY

Will meet the second Tuesday of the month, October 10th at 2:00 P.M.  This change is only for the month of October.   Schedule will be back to normal in November (1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 2:00 P.M.)  The Bernthals will be in Florida for the last half of the month.

NONA COPPINGER MEMORIAL SERVICE   Nona Coppinger died early Wednesday morning at Innisfree Nursing Home following a stroke a few weeks ago.  A memorial service for Nona will be held here at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday morning at 10:30 AM.  Burial of her cremains will happen in the future.

PINOCHLE CARDSWe will again be playing Pinochle on Friday, October 6th and invite any newcomers that enjoy the game.  We meet in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 p.m. to set up and start playing cards at 6:30.  There are tasty snacks to enjoy and great fellowship to share.  Coffee and water are there to wash down those goodies.  Look forward to seeing “ya all.”

MILITARY BIBLESTICKS:   This year we are again giving the members of Holy Trinity an opportunity to provide Military Biblesticks to chaplains who can share them with servicemen and women who desire them.  Each one costs $25.  Over the last 5 years, members at Holy Trinity have touched 226 soldiers and their families.  If you wish to make a contribution, make checks out to Holy Trinity and turn in today., the 24th.  A donor for Faith Comes by Hearing has promised to match every contribution received by September 29.  To date, the church in America has provided 828,357 Military Bible Sticks, including 49,721 to VA hospitals last year.  They currently have requests for 22,000 that need to be filled.  Over the last two Sundays, members of Holy Trinity have contributed $1,125.

SCHEDULE CHANGE   The Church Council decided to change our worship schedule for October to facilitate a special service to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation.  The Unity Sunday on October 15 has been moved to October 29.

SAMARITAN CENTER CAFÉ   Our next date to serve at the Samaritan Center Café is this coming Saturday, September 30.  The first shift is from 8:30 AM – 12:45 PM.  This shift will assist in the kitchen preparing food and the plates that will be served to our guests.  The café requires that volunteers are 16 years of age or older to work in the kitchen.  The second shift is from 10:00 A.M. to 12:45 P.M.  This shift will prepare the drinks, take orders, and serve the plates of food for our guests.  All ages are welcome for this shift.  It is a great opportunity for our younger youth as well to serve. TRUNK OR TREAT  The sign up sheet is up for trunks and the Education Team is getting exciting!  Remember that decoration isn't required but we do have prizes for the three best decorated trucks so start looking for cool ideas and deals to make your trunk the best!

HELPING HANDS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED  The next day for our congregation to support Helping Hands is on Saturday, October 14th. Helping Hands is a congregation-supported organization that sells donated goods in order to buy food and cover other expenses for those in need. They routinely provide food for nearly 100 families a day and they need our help to support this important community effort. A sign up sheet is available in the Narthex, or you can contact Dave Ferguson for more information.

BIKES, BLUES AND BBQ   is coming up on September 20th through the 23rd.  Just like last year, our Journeymen’s Ministry will be sponsoring a breakfast for bikers as they tour through Northwest Arkansas.  In order to fix the breakfast, we will need about 18 to 20 people to help us with the preparation, cooking and serving.  Everything will be provided by the Journeymen’s Ministry, with the aid of a Thrivent Action team grant to cover part of the costs. We will also be giving out free bottled water on the Thursday and Friday, 11 A.M. to 4 P.M., to encourage bikers to stop back by for the breakfast on Saturday. 

WHAT WE NEED IS—YOU!!!  We will need help on Thursday and Friday, as we will give out the water in front of church from 11 am to 4 pm each day.  Then we will also need help on Saturday with the breakfast.  We need guys, and gals, to help each day.

THIS IS A GREAT OUTREACH opportunity for our church as there will be more than 200,000 people visiting NWA that weekend.  A SIGN-UP SHEET IS IN THE NARTHEX.

MUSICIANS WANTED: We would like to do a special collaboration on Reformation (Unity Sunday – Oct. 29) and Christmas Eve (7pm) this year.  The piece for Reformation is A Mighty Fortress.  We are looking for singers, and 2 trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba, and timpani players.  The brass and timpani players should be of moderate skill level.  The piece for Christmas Eve is Sing We Now of Christmas.  There are parts for flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello, and string bass.  Anyone interested should have at least 3 years of training on their instrument.  There are many other pieces for any combination of these instruments that we can play throughout the year.  If you are interested at all, please email LeAnn Girshner at maestro_LMM@yahoo.com.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS  This morning we are thanking our Sunday School teachers for this past year and installing them for this new school year.  We thank the following teachers who helped last year and will be continuing this next year:  Nicci Winters, Sabrina Isbell, Nicole Bowers, Nancy Eisma,  Kacey Studyvin and substitutes Amy Wright and Kevin Brockhoff.  New teachers this year include Jeff Simson and Eric Kerr.  We also thank Dean Eisma for teaching the Junior High last year.

MARTIN LUTHER SPECIAL THIS TUESDAY   A new PBS special has been produced to honor the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation this year in conjunction with Thrivent Financial and various Lutheran groups.  This special entitled “Martin Luther:  The Idea that Changed the World” will be televised this Tuesday evening at 7 PM on AETN.  We encourage you to watch it or DVR it for another time.

FEED MY SHEEP  Is today.  We appreciate your donations asthe pantry assistance needs have increased during the summer months.  If you forgot items for the wagon, you may make a monetary donation in the jar to help out.

LABOR DAY         Tomorrow is Labor Day.  The church office is closed.

LADIES EVENING BIBLE STUDY   We will begin with a Bible Journaling class on Sept. 13 qat 5:30 pm. It will be a one time class to see if anyone is interested in continuing. We will have prayer, bible study, discussion and journaling and COLORING! That's the rage right now and why not give it a try?? If you are interested and would like to attend the Sept. 13th class, please join us. We will have materials for the first night. If you like it and want to continue, you will need to purchase the journal ($10), which is available from Amazon.com (or we can order one for you). This will be a "come and go" type of class...once you have the journal, you can use it at home on your own if you can't come to class.

USHER SERVICE   We are looking for a “few good men” to step up and volunteer to be Ushers either for the Early Service or the Late Service.  If you would like to serve the Lord in this capacity, there are Usher volunteer sheets located next to the bulletins in the Narthex.  Additionally, we are looking for volunteers just to help with the collection.  For questions, contact R. TEXAS DISASTER   Hurricane Harvey has been very destructive for the people along the Texas coast, especially in the Houston area.  Instead of doing a door offering, here are a couple of places where you can contribute money or find other ways to help those in need.  First, the Texas District website has a section with updates and a place to give.  That web address is:  https://txlcms.org/how-can-i-help-hurricane-harvey/#  (or just go to: https://txlcms.org).

MUSICIANS WANTED: We would like to do a special collaboration on Reformation (Oct. 29 - late service) and Christmas Eve (7pm) this year.  The piece for Reformation is A Mighty Fortress.  We are looking for singers, and 2 trumpets, french horn, trombone, tuba, and timpani players.  The brass and timpani players should be of moderate skill level.  The piece for Christmas Eve is Sing We Now of Christmas.  There are parts for flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello, and string bass.  Anyone interested should have at least 3 years of training on their instrument.  There are many other pieces for any combination of these instruments that we can play throughout the year.  If you are interested at all, please email LeAnn Girshner at maestro_LMM@yahoo.com.

BIKES, BLUES AND BBQ   is coming up on September 20th through the 23rd.  Just like last year, our Journeymen’s Ministry will be sponsoring a breakfast for bikers as they tour through Northwest Arkansas.  In order to fix the breakfast, we will need about 18 to 20 people to help us with the preparation, cooking and serving.  Everything will be provided by the Journeymen’s Ministry with the aid of a Thrivent Action team grant to cover part of the costs. We will also be giving out free bottled water on the Thursday and Friday before the breakfast to encourage bikers to stop by for the breakfast on Saturday. 

WHAT WE NEED IS—YOU!!  We will need help on Thursday and Friday as we will give out the water in front of church from 11 am to 4 pm each day.  Then we will also need help on Saturday with the breakfast.  We need guys and gals to help each day.

THIS IS A GREAT OUTREACH opportunity for our church as there will be more than 200,000 people visiting NWA that weekend.  A SIGN-UP SHEET IS IN THE NARTHEX.

CONDOLENCES   We want to express our Christian sympathy to Nona Coppinger, one of our shut-in members.  Her sister, Juanita Tolbert died on Monday.  The funeral was Saturday.  Nona lives at Innisfree, Room E 104.

RALLY DAY  Today is Rally Day Join us for a day of water park madness at Rogers Aquatic Center starting at 1:00 p.m.  Tickets on us!  If you haven’t already done so, please add your name to the sign-up sheet in the Narthex.  We need a final count of those attending.  

CONFIRMATION CLASSES  will be held on Tuesday afternoons this year starting on August 29 for the 7th and 8th graders of our congregation.  The first class is for students and parents.  It will run from 5:30-7:00 PM in Classroom 1.  After that, classes will be from 4:30-6:30 pm on Tuesday afternoons.  

PINOCHLE CARDS  School is back in session and we are looking at September.  First Friday of the month is September 1st and if your staying put for Labor Day weekend, come and join us for an evening of cards.  We will set up once again at 6 pm and the cards will begin to be shuffled at 6:30 pm.  Don’t forget your snack & beverage.  We will have coffee available. 

NEXT SUNDAY IS FEED MY SHEEP   The first Sunday of each month is “Feed My Sheep” Sunday.  We encourage you to either bring some food staples for our panty and put it in the wagon or make a monetary contribution so we can buy food from the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.  Thank you for your generosity.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD is still a few months away, but I would encourage you to start to think about it while you are out shopping. Samaritan's Purse (who put on OCC) recommend in August, shopping for clothing items and school supplies, so be praying for OCC and looking for good deals. Also if you buy a pair of fabulous shoes, wear them to church to show off and drop the box off in the church office!

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - VOLUNTEER SIGN-UPS

Vacation Bible School is an incredible ministry here at Holy Trinity. Last year we had 50 children at our VBS, with well over half not being members of this Church. VBS is a tremendous way to reach out into our community and reach some people with the Gospel. In order to do this, we need your help. Each position is pivotal in making our VBS the best it can be from Crew Leaders to Snack Makers. Please visit our table in the Narthex, check out some of the positions that are open and speak to Cameron, Cathy, or Eric about being a volunteer and helping us reach out into our community.

SUMMER HUNGER PROGRAM

School is out, but hunger is not. Free and reduced meal programs at schools, help feed thousands of kids in Northwest Arkansas who rely on this program to be able to eat during the summer months. There are several summer hunger programs in the four county area that are dedicated to serving children in need. NOAH’S ARK TOUR   It is official we have our minimum required travelers for the Noah's Ark trip.

ENDOWMENT AND MEMORIAL COMMITTEE PROPOSAL   As part of our long-range plan, the task force and Church Council are making recommendations to the Voters for the July 16 meeting to simplify the Endowment Committee section of the By-laws, the bring the structure into line with the rest of the By-laws, and to expand the scope of the committee by including memorial funds under their oversight.  Copies of the proposed version is available on the table in the Narthex for people to take home and study before the Voters’ Meeting.
