DIRECTORY UPDATE REMINDER  Please submit your form to be included in the 2017 Church directory. Forms need to be mailed in or can be brought to the Church office by February 3rd. Thank you for your help in getting our new directory together.

CHURCH LOCK-UP REMINDERPlease make sure all doors including garage doors are shut, locked, and secure if you are the last person leaving the building or the shed. We have had a few incidents lately to where doors have been left unlocked all night on the premises.  Also, please turn off lights.  We have found the lights on in the shed when no one had been in there for more than a week.  It is your offering that pays for the light bill.   We appreciate your assistance in making sure the facilities are kept secure overnight and that we are good stewards of your offerings. Thank you.

PORTALS OF PRAYER  Make sure you pick up the new Portals of Prayer for January.  They are available in the Narthex.  Feel free to share them with other people.

LUTHER QUOTE FOR THE WEEK

MISSION U  has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 11th at Holy Trinity from 9:00am-2:00pm.  This free seminar is entitled “’Equipping To Share: Tough Questions.”  Participants will learn how to classify, identify, and get to the root of tough questions and objections to Christianity, and practice giving sensitive and relevant answers that point to the Savior, suing messages of “Law” and “Gospel” as appropriate.  Lunch will be provided. Childcare is available with prior arrangement.  Call the Church office to register or sign up on the bulletin board in the Narthex.  In order to get lunches ordered, we ask that you contact the Church office no later than Tuesday, February 7th.

LIFE QUOTES  “If unborn children are to be protected from death by abortion; if newborn handicapped children are to be protected from death by infanticide; if the elderly, the ‘non-productive,’ the dependent are to be protected by euthanasia; and if the sanctity of life is to be affirmed and protected, then our voice is essential.”

Dr. Jean Garton, former president of Lutherans For Life.-A Life Quote from Lutheran For Life- If you want to support this ministry, you may do so through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

Windshield Wiper and a Child

From the mouths of babes.  It's all so clear to them. Driving in the rain will never be quite the same.........

One rainy afternoon I was driving along one of the main streets of town, taking those extra precautions necessary when the roads are wet and slick.  Suddenly, my son Matthew spoke up from his relaxed position in he front seat.   “Mom, I'm thinking of something.”  This announcement usually meant he had been pondering some fact for a while and was now ready to expound all that his seven-year-old mind had discovered.  I was eager to hear. “What are you thinking?” I asked.  “The rain,” he began, “is like sin and the windshield wipers are like God, wiping our sins away.”

After the chill bumps raced up my arms I was able to respond.  “That's really good, Matthew.”  Then my curiosity broke in.  How far would this little boy take this revelation?  So I asked... “Do you notice how the rain keeps on coming?  What does that tell you?”   Matthew didn't hesitate one moment with his answer: “We keep on sinning, and God just keeps on forgiving us.”

Who can drive in the rain again without thinking of this???

YOUR FACE CAN WITNESS

A church paper reported a study from a woman who visited eighteen churches on successive Sundays.  She walked up and down the aisle and visited with people after each service.  She rated each parish on the following scale:

    10    — for a smile from a worshiper

10    — for a greeting from someone sitting nearby

100    — for an exchange of names

200    — for an invitation to coffee or dinner

200    — for an invitation to return

1000    — for an introduction to another worshiper

2000    — for an invitation to meet the pastor

On this scale, all eighteen churches earned fewer than 100 points!   The “researcher” concludes:  “The preaching may be Biblical, the singing inspirational, the sermon uplifting, but when the visitor finds no one who cares whether or not she is there, she is not likely to come back.”

Go ahead and smile!  Show people that you (and your face) know about the love and peace of Christ Jesus!

LUTHER QUOTE FOR THE WEEK  In this Gospel you see the mother of Christ directly the servants away from herself and unto Christ, telling them “Whatever he says to you, do it.” To this word alone you must direct everyone, if you would direct aright; so that this word of Mary is and ought be, a daily saying in Christendom, destroying all doctrines of men and women and everything not really Christ’s Word.  ( Church Postils, Epiphany 2)

GIRLS LUNCH OUT Is scheduled for this Thursday the 19th at the Atlanta Bread Company beginning at 11:30 am. Please sign up on bulletin board and come join us for great food, fellowship and lots of fun!

LIFE QUOTES  “Every life has value because every life is someone created by God, redemmed by the blood of Jesus, and someone He either has called or wants to call into an eternal relationship with Him. It doesn’t have to be complicated! Amen.”

Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, former executive director of Lutherans For Life.  If you want to support this ministry, you may do so through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

Determining Life Spans

God created the mule, and told him "You will be mule, working constantly from dusk to dawn, carrying heavy loads on your back.  You will eat grass and lack intelligence.  You will live for 50 years.  The mule answered, "To live like this for 50 years is too much.

Please, give me no more than 20."  And so it was so.

Then God created the dog and told him, "You will hold vigilance over the dwellings of Man, to whom you will be his greatest companion.  You will eat his table scraps and live for 25 years."  And the dog responded,  "Lord, to live 25 years as a dog like that is too much.  Please, no more than 10 years."  And so it was so.

God then created the monkey and told him, "You are monkey.  You shall swing from tree to tree, acting like an idiot.  You will be funny, and you shall live for 20 years."  And the Monkey responded, "Lord to live for 20 years as the clown of the world is too much.  Please, Lord,  give me no more than 10 years."  And it was so.

Finally, God created Man and told him, "You are Man, the only rational being that walks the earth. You will use your intelligence to have mastery over the creatures of the world.  You will dominate the earth and live for 20 years."  An the man responded,  "Lord, to be Man for only 20 years is too little.  Please, Lord, give me the 20 years the mule refused, then the 15 years the dog refused, and the 10 years the monkey rejected."  And it was so.

And so God made Man to live 20 years as a man, then marry and live 20 years like a mule working and carrying heavy loads on his back.  Then he is to have children and live 15 years as a dog, guarding his house and eating the leftovers after they empty the pantry; then in his old age, to live 10 years as a monkey, acting like an idiot to amuse his grandchildren.   And it is so.

Nevertheless, scientific observations define them as nothing other than human lives, worthy of the same respect the Scriptures assign us all. They look and act exactly like a human being ought to in these beginning stages of her growth.”

Rev. Michael W. Salemink, Executive Director of Lutherans For Life.

What Not to Take into the New Year

Self-Help Books – Trust in God first.  Don’t turn to Him as a last resort(Proverbs 3:5, 6)

Tape Measure – Consider only God’s standards.  Don’t compare yourself to other people(Luke 18:9-14)

Rearview Mirror – Don’t live in the past.  You’ll miss out on what God is doing in your life now(Philippians 3:12-14)

Gavel – Stop wasting time judging others.  Instead, pray for them, help them, and team with them)  Luke 6:37, 38)

Life Vest – Don’t be overly cautious spiritually.  Peter experienced Jesus in a real way because he dared to step out of the boat(Matthew 14:22-33)

Garage-Door Opener – We think we’re networked but often isolate ourselves.  God intended for us to live in community with one another(Hebrews 10:23-25)

Handcuffs – Don’t offer excuses about why you can’t help out.  God can do amazing things through – and despite – us.  Just follow Him, with no excuses(Mark 6:35-44)

n  Gregg McCaslin

ONE SOLITARY LIFE

He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman.  He grew up in still another village, where He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty.  Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.  He never wrote a book.  He never held an office.  He never had a family or owned a house.  He didn't go to college.  He never visited a big city.

He never traveled more than two hundred miles from the place where He was born.  He did none of the things one usually associates with greatness.   He had no credentials but Himself.  He was only thirty-three when the tide of public opinion turned against Him.  His friends ran away.

He was turned over to His enemies and went through the mockery of a trial.  He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.  While He was dying, His executioners gambled for His clothing, the only property He had on earth.  After He died, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.

Nineteen centuries have come and gone, and today He is the central figure of the human race and the leader of mankind's progress.  All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man on this earth as much as that one solitary life.

WE are going to need a lot of help getting all the shoeboxes ready and it is al;ways a lot of fun. Make sure to bring some pictures of your family to share with the children who receive the presents, if you so wish. And there is one last way you can help and it is important. Each box costs $7 to send overseas, which is a real deal when it comes to shipping. If you would please consider making an extra offering this month to help get these presents where they need need to go it will be appreciated. Make sure to mark it Operation Christmas Child. Talk to Cameron or visit www.holytrin.org/occ if you have any questions.

This is where we get food for our soul. We need to sit as a fmaily and let God feed us with His Word, have our devotion, and pray together.”Rev. Homer Larsen, Christian Crusader radio program-*A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life* www.lutheransforlife.org

LIFE QUOTES  “Is someone resistant to the life-affirming message as you have presented? Perhaps it’s the attitude they sense when they have been approached. I have found that when my attitude is more reflective of Christ, my message is much better received, and I can do my job of lifting those who are weak. So I pray, “Lord make me a servant who is humble and meek that I might lift up those who are weak. Amen.”. “Lynette Auch, President of Lutherans For Life- *A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life* www.lutheransforlife.org

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Christmas is a wonderful time of family, friends, gifts, and of course, Jesus; the greatest gift. In other countries however, some do not have a Christmas. This is where Operation Christmas Child comes in. Thru this effort presents are sent to kids who normally wouldn’t get one along with a message of baby Jesus and his mission to save us all. Our Church can help this goal by putting some of those presents together each year. The simplest way you can help is to donate shoe boxes. You can either wrap them like a present at home or we can do it here. The second and powerful way you can help is to shop. A shopping list can be found in the narthex. If you spot something that is on the list while shopping please consider purchasing it and either creating your own present at home or dropping off in Church office for the mass pack in November. For more information please go to holytrin.org/occ.

WORSHIP SLIDES We have a need for an individual to replace Casey Bolte at the end of this month helping with slides. If you can help please contact Pastor Besel about the details.

OUTREACH MINISTRY  Is in need of two volunteers. Volunteers are needed once a month and for two fundraisers a year. If interested in helping out please contact Pat Rader @

479-644-4153.

LEAVE A LEGACY  Do you have a plan to passon your financial gifts to the people and ministries you love? Make plans to attend the “Leaving A Legacy” event that Holy Trinity is hosting on November 6th @ 3:30pm. Reserve your seat by November 2nd by contacting

Mid-South District Office @ 866-373-1343 ext. 3107

MISSION U Coming November 19.  For details or to sign up, see the bulletin board in the Narthex.

Place items on the Giving Center counter so we can keep those items separate from the Pantry donations.  If you would like to RECEIVE A BASKET please contact the Church office by Friday, November 18th.  We need to know if you want a basket for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY  Do you have any Christian books, extra Bibles, or Women’s Bible studies/devotions collecting dust at your house?  If they have not been written in and you are looking for a place to donate them, bring them to church!  There is a plastic collection tub in the Giving Center in the Narthex.  Casey Bolte is collecting books/Bibles/devotionals and donating them to a local jail ministry/outreach.

LIFE QUOTES  “Luther placed primary emphasis on the Word. He understood that scripture is the final authoritative source for the Church’s life and doctrine. Everything the Church says or does is to be consistent with God’s Word and is to be regulated by God’s word. God has spoken, his Word is truth, and it is the Church’s responsibility to regulate her speech in the light of God’s speech. That is what continual reformation is.” Rev.Michael Stangeland, Pastor of Highwater Lutheran Church, Lamberton Minnesota. *A life quote from Lutherans For Life*  www.lutheransforlife.org

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Christmas is a wonderful time of family, friends, gifts, and of course, Jesus; the greatest gift. In other countries however, some do not have a Christmas. This is where Operation Christmas Child comes in. Thru this effort presents are sent to kids who normally wouldn’t; get one along with a message of baby Jesus and his mission to save us all. For more informationplease go to holytrin.org/occ.

OUTREACH MINISTRY  Is in need of two volunteers. Volunteers are needed once a month and for two fundraisers a year. If intereseted in helping out please contact Pat Rader @

479-644-4153.

MILITARY BIBLESTICKS   Once again we are giving the members of our congregation the opportunity to provide Military Biblesticks to chaplains to provide audio Bibles to members of our military and their families.  Please see the insert in the bulletin for details.  Over the last 4 years, members of Holy Trinity have provided 165 of these Biblesticks for our military.  Each one costs $25.  That means we have donated $4,125 for Biblesticks.  We ask any gifts be made by November 13.

LIFE QUOTES  “Every day in this country such confusion and fear leads to nearly 3,000 babies being brutally destroyed through abortion. These are babies created by God, babies for whom Jesus dies, and babies God wants to call into an eternal relationship with him. How can we possibly label these [issues] ‘political’ and withold the only thing that can speak to such matters of the heart? The gospel is designed to speak to hearts; your heart, my heaart, all hearts. The Gospel calls us to repentance. The Gsopel cleanses our hearts and forgives the sins that flow from our hearts.” Rev.Dr. James I. Lamb, former Execuitive Director of Lutherans for Life.

LIFE QUOTES  “All human governments, even bad ones, are actually God’s agents of stability and order. How wonderful when individual Christians and their congreagations don’t just hunker down and hide in their holy fortresses until judgement day. How wonderful when they get out into their communities and help clean, repair, and build. How wonderdul when their acts of love and mercy, given as freely as Christ’s love and mercy, touch and bless the lives of their neighbors, not just fellow church members. And how respectful when Christians refrain from ridiculing theiur elected officials, even when they strenously disagree with them. To love God is also to love our country, you know.” Rev. Mark Jeske, www.timeofgrace.org- * A Life Quote from Lutherans for Life* www.lutheransforlife.org

The Joy in Receiving God’s Blessings

Today is the start of our stewardship emphasis Experiencing the Joy of Generosity. Our theme for today is “The Joy in Receiving God’s Blessings.” In the words of Billy Graham, “God has given us two hands, one to give with and the other to receive with.” Through the work of the Holy Spirit, we are able to appreciate how generously God gives to us. He provides for us physically and spiritually. God demonstrated his love for us by giving “His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). First God loved, then he gave, and he keeps on giving. Forgiveness, salvation, and, in fact, all we are and everything we have or ever will have are gifts from God.

A FATHER’S PLEDGE

I pledge allegiance to my home…to my wife…to my sons and daughters.  I will honor my home and consider my trust in supporting it a sacred one.  I will do more than this.  I will take time to cultivate a friendship between myself and my family.  I will not be too busy when they need me…even though it is only to catch a football or mend a doll’s broken leg.  I will love my children as only I can.  I will complement their mother’s hours of care and concern.  I will introduce my children to Jesus and share with them the joy of Christian values in our Christian home.

CONFIRMATION PRAYER PALS   Confirmation is right around the corner and with that comes a lot of studying and homework.  Our Confirmation Prayer Pals help during these stressful times by praying and supporting the students.  Studies show that teenagers need 5 adult mentors outside of their parents during this critical period and the church is one of the best places they can receive that support.  The responsibilities of a Prayer Pal is to pray for their student regularly, remember them on special days (birthdays, Christmas, and the like), and visit with them once a month at a scheduled day and time, for a half an hour. It really is a blessing to both the prayer pal and the student.  If you are interested or have questions, talk to Cameron.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS    The Education Ministry Team is looking for Sunday School teachers this fall. The hope is to have multiple teachers per class, allowing teachers to attend other Bible classes and such throughout the year. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Kevin Brockhoff or Cameron Pullman.

MISSION CRAFTS  Meets on Wednesday nights in Classroom 1 from 3-8:00pm. We are in need of greeting cards, and double stick tape. We are making personal care gift bags for the Battered Women’s Shelter this Fall. Donations of small personal items could be used. Contact Mary Girshner with questions.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Now is the time to shop for school  supplies for this event with all of the sales currently happening. These supplies mean so much to the children we send these gifts too. Pens, pencils, notebooks, crayons, and other school supplies are in desperate need in other countries. There are other needs besides school supplies ! For a complete list of items please visit

VBS DECORATING JULY 23RD

VBS is fast approaching and we are buckling down and getting ready.  One of the biggest, and honestly most fun, ways you can help is by helping us decorate.  This year we will transform the education wing and other parts of the church into a magnificent cave to help us better explore God's love.  We will be starting around 4:00pm on July 23rd.  If you would like to help or learn more about VBS this year, please contact Cameron.

DON’T FORGET MISSION U!

We are hosting our next session of Mission U on Saturday, July 23, from 9 AM – 2 PM in Classroom 1.  This session is “Equipping to Share:  Tough Questions.”  Participants will learn how to classify, identify, and get to the root of tough questions and objections to Christianity, and practice giving sensitive and relevant answers that point to the Savior, using messages of “Law” and “Gospel” as appropriate.  The congregation is picking up the costs, including lunch.  Please sign up on the bulletin board in the Narthex by next Sunday so we can order food.

LIFE QUOTES

“Christian fatherhood goes beyond merely ensuring that children are well cared for and provided for. A Christian father will also be actively engaged in the rearing of his children. The apostle Paul gives divine counsel both on how to-and how not to–go about this parental function, when he exhorts, “Fathers, do not exasperate your children, instead, bring them up in training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4, NIV) Rev. Mark Gullerud, Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bowdle, South Dakota - A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • www.lutheransforlife.org

UPDATE ON THE NURSERY

Due to low usage and difficulty staffing the nursery, it will be converted into a cry room effective the first Sunday in August (08/07/2016).  This means the room is still available for use by parents, however parents will need to stay with their children.   There will not be an adult present to watch the children.  The video feed will continue to be available.  If you have any concerns or comments regarding this conversion, please contact your Elder or the church office.

NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING

The Youth left Wednesday morning!  They are currently in New Orleans with several thousand other youth praising and learning more about our Lord!  You can follow the events of the Youth Gathering through the Synod’s web site.  It is:  www.lcms.org.  Please keep them all in your prayers.  Those attending are:  Cole Brockoff, Conner Byrd, Kelsey Byrd, Daniel Cearley, Jarrod Eisma, Kendell Faust, Mackie Gregory, Zander Gregory, Abbey Griffin, Aaron Gust, Valerie Gust, Amelia Gutche, Courtney Gutche, Lauren Kellogg, Zeke Peterson, and Matthew Sij.  Their adult leaders are:  Cameron and Terra Pullmann, Pam Pickett, and Dean Eisma.  They should be back at the church on Wednesday, July 20th.

TO THINK ABOUT  …

“The human heart is like a ship on a stormy sea driven about by winds blowing from all four corners of heaven.”

                          – Martin Luther

THE CENTER OF THE BIBLE..........

·       Do you know what the shortest chapter in the Bible is?   Answer:  Psalms 117

·       Do you know what the longest chapter in the Bible is?     Answer:  Psalms 119

·       Do you know the center chapter of the Bible?    Answer:   Psalms 118

·       Fact:  There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118

·       Fact:  There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118

·       Add these numbers and you get 1118.

·       The center verse in the Bible is Psalms 118:8

·       Does this verse say something significant about God's perfect will?

·       Next time someone says they would like to find God's perfect will for their lives and that they want to know the center of His will, just send them to the center of His Word.

Psalms 118:8 (NKJV)  "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man"

NOW ISN'T THAT ODD HOW THIS WORKED OUT.......OR WAS GOD IN THE CENTER OF IT?

Word of Hope (888.217.8679; www.word-of-hope.org) connects men and women ‘soul wounded’ through the act of abortion to the forgiveness and healing that comes only through knowing that God loves you and sent His Son to free you from the guilt of all sin—including abortion.” Diane E. Schroeder, former president of Lutherans For Life – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • www.lutheransforlife.org

Suddenly, my son Matthew spoke up from his relaxed position in the front seat.
