NARTHEX MAILBOXES            The office staff is in the process of reorganizing mailboxes.  Please help us out by removing the contents of your mailbox.  Placement is the same for this Sunday, but we hope this project to be completed this week so your mail may not be in exactly the same location next week.  Please look carefully for your name.  If you are a newcomer, your mailbox has been placed alphabetically.  Why is it that the tallest of us always get mailboxes that are on the bottom and the shortest of us always get the very top tier?  In order to help some with that problem, the top tier of mailboxes will be taped off.  Also some mailboxes will be left unlabled to aid in assimilating newcomers.

UNITY SUNDAY  is next week, July 15.  There is one service at 10:00 A.M.  Instead of a HTY Café, we will have potluck dinner.  There will also be a voters meeting.  The agenda will include an update on improvement projects, the financial condition of the congregation, and projects on hold because of finances.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL  Many of the volunteer roles have been filled for VBS but there are still areas where we need help! Check the Narthex board for Crew Leader sign ups or speak to Cameron if you would like to help at cameron@holytrin.org.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH   The Heavenly Father fashions crowns from thorns (2 Corinthians 12:9). In His steady hands, human pains have sacred purposes. What most would dismiss as burdensome, hopeless, futile, the God of the Cross adopts and adapts into blessing, holy, significant. He Who redeems hearts redeems hurts as well, whether crises or incurable or even crimes against life, to display His forgiving salvation. Almighty God, shape us into examples of Your power perfected in weakness and place us as its ambassadors. Amen. (Pentecost VII)

LIFE QUOTES   “When people consider euthanasia for those experiencing illness or decline with aging, God’s Word is clear again through King David in Psalm 139:16b (NIV): ‘[A]ll the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.’” Mona Fuerstenau, director of Lutheran Ministry Partnerships, Bethesda Lutheran Communities– If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site www.lutheransforlife.org

Life’s Little Blessings

So many of life’s little blessings today

Will come unnoticed and slip away,

While we continue to grumble and fuss,

Ignoring the good God Who gave them to us.

How much more happy our lives would be,

If instead of complaining, we’d just stop to see

The numerous blessings He gives us each day,

Which lighten our burdens and brighten our way.

—Glenda Fulton Davis

Learning from the Great Personalities Of the Bible

If you are impatient, sit down and talk to Job.

If you are just a little strong-headed, go and see Moses.

If you are tired and afraid, take a good look at Elijah.

If there is no song in your heart, listen to David.

If you feel cold and lonely, get the beloved disciple John to put his arm around you.

If your faith is weak, read about the apostle Paul.

If you are getting lazy, listen to James.

If you are losing sight of the future, climb up the stairs of Revelation and get a glimpse of the promised land.

UPDATE ON PICTURE DIRECTORY:

We are now progressing toward an updated roster.  These are the fields we will be using and need you to make sure you have the information you want in the directory:

Last Name; Adult First Names/last name if different from household name; Children’s First Name and Last Name if different than parent; Street Address; City; State; Zip; Email Address (all lower case); Phone Number (with area code); Extra Phone Number (with area code).

PLEASE, check the previous directory to see if you need any changes and if you do, let Elaine or Krista in the office know what you need in the book.

Thank you so much for being here for your picture.  Our directory will be so nice and I know you will enjoy learning who you see every Sunday.  Holy Trinity is not so large that you should NOT know everyone who worships with us weekly.  Having phone numbers and email addresses has been such a great help for me to be able to contact anyone I need to and I know others use them often, as well.

Elaine Launderville

GREETERS, READERS, VIDEO OPERATORS, COUNTERS, OFFICE HELPERS   Help us save some postage money.  Please pick up your third quarter schedule from your mailbox in the Narthex.

GARDEN TABLE AVAILABLE   If you have extra produce from your garden that you want to share with other people, you are invited to put them on the counter in the Giving Center in the Narthex.   Feel free to help yourself to anything placed on the Garden Table.  Reminder, first come, first served.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH  Though his existence must have seemed pointless, Job refused suicide (Job 2:9-10). And God catalogued a world of testimonies to His enduring dominion and goodness (38:1-11). Paul likewise lists a litany of purposes in pain and hope during hardships (2 Corinthians 6:4-10). Jesus remains gracious Lord both of life and of all threats to it (Mark 4:41). He knows what it takes to save. In this comfort and confidence we may share His rest while life issues rage around us. Mighty Savior, give us Your peace and Your voice in our dangers. Amen.

(Pentecost V)

Our Gospel is:

    J oyful in tone

    E arnest in spirit

    S atisfying to the soul

    U plifting to all

    S ane in its appeal.

LIFE QUOTES   “When we see the young woman in a crisis pregnancy … vulnerable, helpless, feeling destined to make only one choice—we are compelled to speak and defend and help because it is the Christ thing to do … We lift her up and offer Christ’s compassion in real, practical ways.” Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb – If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site www.lutheransforlife.org

YOUR FACE CAN WITNESS

A church paper reported a study from a woman who visited eighteen churches on successive Sundays.  She walked up and down the aisle and visited with people after each service.  She rated each parish on the following scale:

    10    — for a smile from a worshiper

10    — for a greeting from someone sitting nearby

100    — for an exchange of names

200    — for an invitation to coffee or dinner

200    — for an invitation to return

1000    — for an introduction to another worshiper

2000    — for an invitation to meet the pastor

On this scale, all eighteen churches earned fewer than 100 points!   The “researcher” concludes:  “The preaching may be Biblical, the singing inspirational, the sermon uplifting, but when the visitor finds no one who cares whether or not she is there, she is not likely to come back.”

Go ahead and smile!  Show people that you (and your face) know about the love and peace of Christ Jesus!

LIFE QUOTES   “Children, vulnerable and dependent, desperately need security, and it has ever been a duty and a joy of fatherhood to offer it. Being a father requires strength … and more than a little courage … to persevere, to fight discouragement, and to keep working for the family … With God’s grace, fathers find the patience to teach, the fortitude to provide, the compassion to comfort, and the mercy to forgive. All of this is to say that they find the strength to love their wives and children selflessly … Let us … express our thanks and affection to our fathers, whether we can do so in person or in prayer.” President Ronald Reagan, Father’s Day 1988 – If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site www.lutheransforlife.org

OUR NEIGHBORS NEED SOME HELP   Samaritan Shop in Rogers is doing a big push this summer for volunteers to help sort and organize donations to be sold to fund several programs we have to feed the hurting and hungry in NWA. We can’t do this without the help of those ready to serve. We would love to have families, individuals and groups to come on mission right here in our community this summer whether it be one day or several weeks. We are hoping you can help us with volunteer recruitment.  If you can help, please contact  Karen VanScoy  kvanscoy@samcc.org

SUMMER MIX YOUTH ACTIVITES:

Grades 6 - 12

Week of June 18th – Putting a float trip together sometime that week, probably that Wednesday, June 20th.  It will be during the day, leaving sometime early morning

June 24th – Nerf War at Church 12-2 pm.  Lunch will be provided.

June 28th – Trip to the Aquatic Center 11 am – 2 pm.  Cost is $5 per student.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH  Being Gospel-motivated voices for life gets frustrating when we don’t immediately see changed hearts and saved lives. But fathers both know and show that heroes are built over time, not born in a moment. We can take courage from God Himself patiently planting His own kingdom like seeds (Mark 4:26-28) and carefully cultivating it like saplings (Ezekiel 17:22-24). Boys become men, and stems will yield. This Gospel—for us too!—renews our life-affirming enthusiasm and routines. Ancient of Days, teach us to walk and talk and work by faith and not by sight. Amen.

(Pentecost IV)

LIFE QUOTES   “You can stand for life today, even if you have had an abortion. When you bring any sin into the light, Jesus disarms the enemy. The devil can no longer hold that sin over you. Christ is your righteousness, and you stand in Him. God’s Word declares it to be so.” Rev. Lyndon Korhonen, president of the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site www.lutheransforlife.org

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH  Bearing unintended (at least from Eve’s perspective) offspring was key to God’s magnum opus (Genesis 3:15). A crippled body became heaven’s vehicle for humankind’s salvation. Advocating abortion access, supporting fetal-tissue research, and tolerance of hastening deaths reveal how narrow our imagination can be. Thanks be to God that His creativity exceeds our near-sightedness! Almighty Maker, open our eyes to Your vision for life until it opens our mouths as well. Amen. (Pentecost II)

LIFE QUOTES   Would you be willing to take a little bit of time on Memorial Day to do two things?  One is to thank God for the successful outcomes of the sacrifices that these graves represent.  Our country is a free and blessed place, and our freedom was bought at a terrible price.  Second, will you rededicate yourself to sharing the good news of Jesus so that as many people as possible will be rejoicing on resurrection day”?  As you think about cemeteries, realize that God has the last word: ‘Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt’ (Daniel 12:2 NIV).  All Christian warriors will awake soon to new life.”  Pastor Mark Jeske, Time of Grace–If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site www.lutheransforlife.org

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEAR  “Woe is me!  . . I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclear lips” (Isaiah 6:5).  Many among us complicit in crimes against life secretly cry Isaiah’s lament.  “Behold . . . your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for” (6:7).  The Gospel of God’s healing holiness speaks especially to them.  How can we keep silent about it when the same fierce Spirit of Fatherhood and Sonship so fills us.  Loving Father, Son, and Spirit, send us to prophesy of Your eternal life.  Amen.  (Holy Trinity)

Dear Holy Trinity Lutheran Church,

It has been nearly 7 months since our home burned down and we suddenly found ourselves without a sole belonging.  Those early months were so scary and exhausting.  It was because of people like you that we were able to find support and strength!  We are just now beginning to feel settled again and have hope for a brighter future.  Thank you for your kindness and generosity when we needed it most.  We will never forget you!

Yours truly,

SUMMER CAMP COOK  The Lutheran Camp on Petit Jean is looking for a head cook with experience in a school kitchen or commercial kitchen for the months of June and July to cover staff training and eight sessions of summer camp. The head cook will have college-age assistants. The cook can stay on site in the Family Cabin, commute from home or some combination of the two. It’s a great way to serve God by serving His children. For details, contact David Cox at the camp office: 501-652-6304 or director@lutherancamp.org.

LIFE QUOTES   If you knew that Jesus

would be in your church on Sunday to bless your children, to put His hand on your shoulder, to personally assure you of His forgiveness and love, would you be there? He is there, and He does that through the Gospel.” Rev. James Albrecht, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Okabena, Minnesota -- If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site:  www.lutheransforlife.org

+ + + IN MEMORIAM + + +

Kenneth Charles Sevick  was born on June 18, 1940 to Charles and Grace Sevick in Chicago, Illinois.  He was reborn through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at St. Constance Catholic Church in Chicago on July 1 that same year.  He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1957-1960.  He then went on to build Sevick Construction.  When life shifted gears, he went to school and became a certified photographer, after which he won many awards.  He belonged to Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of California, Inland Empire Professional Photographers and several other associations.  This was when he met his wife, Jenny.  In 1995, he was presented with the Paul Kennedy Award for “Outstanding Service to the Profession” (number 18 out of 25 given).   He reaffirmed his Christian faith through the Rite of Confirmation in March, 1998 at Atonement Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, California.  He and Jenny were married at the same church on December 8, 2000.  When another chain of events happened, he went back to school and became a chef and a pastry chef.  He started a company called “Delectable Desserts.”  Everyone, everywhere soon learned why a church member nicknamed him “The Cheesecake Man.”  He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  Ken died on May 5, 2018 at the Circle of Life Hospice home in Bentonville, Arkansas at the age of 77 years, 10 months, and 18 days.  He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.  Kenneth is survived by his wife, Jenifer Larson Sevick; two  daughters, Heather (Bo) Williams of St. Louis and Amanda “Mandee” Swanson of Los Angeles.  Also surviving him are his siblings: Robert (Laura) Sevick, Renee (Glenn) Bailey, Gail (Pat) Tuley, Gary Sevick, Grace (Steven) Schorr & Dawn Sevick; grandchildren: Madison Williams, Haley Williams, and Dexton Sanchez (due May 22, 2018); cousins: Allen Jaglowski, Jan Olesky, Ed Halter, Rosemary Eling, Margaret Stayart and Melody Rosin; and many nieces and nephews.  Because of his love of Southern California and the Pacific Ocean, his family will abide by his wishes to scatter his ashes there at a later date.  Yesterday we commended his cremains to the Lord’s keeping in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.

RESTORATION LUTHERAN SUPPORT BANQUET   By now we hope you have heard all about Pastor Ziscke's much needed mission plant in Fayetteville and the Banquet the district is having to support his ministry on May 20th from 5-7 PM.  What you may not know is that you are invited!  Yes, that means you reader!  There is no cost to attend, we would just ask you to be aware this is a support banquet where we will learn, in detail, about the ministry Pastor Ziscke is working on and be asked to support it financially.  If you are interested, please speak with Cameron or the church office.

LIFE QUOTES   Young women within our churches are watching how we as the Christian community treat unplanned pregnancy within our own four walls. Yes, it is very important to educate our people on the dangers of abortion and the value of life. But we will fail as life advocates if we do not demonstrate compassion for those among us who find themselves caught in the web of unplanned pregnancy.” Diane E. Schroeder, former president of Lutherans For Life -- If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH  “God shows no partiality” (Acts 10:34b).  His people once misinterpreted His Word and treated Gentiles as less treasured than Jews.  Jesus declared and demonstrated that humanity doesn’t come in degrees—there’s no “more human” or “less hman.”  Everyone who has any “human” at all is infinitely beloved and belongs to theLord.  If He welcomes the wicked with forgiveness, He also welcomes the weak with friendship, and by His Spirit He can make saints of all (10:47).  Son of God, cause us to overcome the world and obey Your commandments.  Amen.  (Easter VI)

POST OFFICE FOOD DRIVE  Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America collect food donations from their postal customers, who participate in the NALC Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive – the largest one-day drive in the nation.  To donate, just place a box or can of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before your letter carrier delivers your mail on Saturday, May 12th.  The carrier will do the rest.  As part of this massive endeavor, Holy Trinity’s Food Pantry receives food donations from our friends at Rogers Post Office.  However, we need help.  On Monday, May 14th we need a driver with an open bed truck to pick up food from the Post Office.  After receipt of donations, we need at least 6 – 8 volunteers at the church to help look for expired items, and to sort and stock food in our pantry.  If you can help, a signup sheet has been posted in the Narthex, or if it is easier for you, just give the office a call at 636-1135.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

LIFE QUOTES   When we see the unborn  vulnerable, helpless, destined for destruction—we are compelled to speak and defend and help. And not because it is the right thing to do or the moral thing to do, but because it is the Christ thing to do. His hands that were pierced and His body that died and rose again were formed in a womb, giving value to all who have resided there.” Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb. If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH  [A]part from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5b).  This holds as true of any of us as it does of unborn or elderly individuals inhabiting life’s edges.  “In this is love, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us”  (1 John 4:10a).  Rather than our accomplish-ments or qualifications, His creating, redeeming, and calling our entire race gives human beings significance.  If God so loves us, we also get to love one another (4:11).  God of truth and love, grant us so to know Your devotion that we also delight to show it.  Amen.  (Easter V)

An Old Farmer's Prayer

A visiting pastor was attending a men’s breakfast in farm county.  He asked one of the impressive older farmers to say grace that morning.  After all were seated, the older farmer began:

“Lord, I hate buttermilk.”  The Priest opened one eye and wondered where this was going.  Then the farmer loudly proclaimed, “Lord, I hate lard.”  Now the Priest was really worried ... however without missing a beat, the old farmer prayed on, “And Lord, you know I don’t care much for raw white flour.”  Just as the pastor was about to stand up and stop everything, the farmer continued:  “But Lord, when you mix ‘em all together and bake ‘em up, I sure do love fresh biscuits.  So Lord, when things come up we don’t like ... when life gets hard ... when we just don’t understand what You are sayin' to us, we just need to relax and wait ‘til You are done mixin’ ... and probably it will be somethin' even better than biscuits.  Amen.”

LIFE QUOTES

Having already swallowed death down along with humankind’s guilt and buried it beneath His resurrection, Jesus Christ has no death left in Him and allows none near His own. Bravely and gratefully we keep sharing what He continues showing us, that all persons are worth it despite the cost and opposition, every one precious for His grace’s sake and not dependent upon appearance or age or ability.” Rev. Michael W. Salemink, executive director of Lutherans For Life

If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH  Lord Jesus shepherds such fragile creatures as us with God’s presence and power (John 20:11).  He shepherds through the very valley of the shadow of death itself (Psalm 23-4).  In low poings like terminal diagnoses and dark places like complicated pregnancies, the devil descends to pilfer and plunder life’s God-given abundance from us.  We need not fear , for the self-sacrificing Resurrected One (John 10:18) promises to replensih anthing evil deprises.   He will not allow us to lack as He carries us to glory and honor.  Faithful Guardian, sustain us in danger and make us agents of Your coming kingdom.  Amen.  (Easter IV)

Meyer  Christians often say, “The Lord be with you.”  What does that look like: And how do you know Jesus is indeed with you?  Jesus’ visit to His first disciples shows us the how and what of confidence in Christ.    (Luke 24:36-49)

SPECIAL GUEST    Our special guest today is David Cox, the director of the Lutheran Camp at Petit Jean.

UNITY SUNDAY next week.  One service at 10 AM.  HTY Café and Voters follow.

THANK YOU   “Thanks for all the cards, prayers and Bible verses. I am better each day. I also appreciated being able to read the News and Notes.  Wishing you all the blessings of Easter.”   -- Joyce Bauer

SPRINGTIME IN THE OZARKS  often brings bad weather.    With that in mind, we thought this might be a good time to remind you of our EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION Plans.  Holy Trinity uses the “Remind” system to notify members and friends of the congregation of weather cancellations, funerals, or other important events.  It is a system designed for school teachers so the teacher is “Mr. Besel” and the class is “Holy Trin.”  To receive text messages to your phone, text @fbab2 to 81010.  You can opt-out of messages at anytime by replying, “unsubscribe @fbab2”.  To receive email notifications, send an email to fbab2@mail.remind.com  (Leave subject line blank).   To unsubscribe, reply with 'unsubscribe' in the subject line.  ALSO:  We also try to put weather cancellations on 5 News, 40/29 TV, and KNWA through their weather alert systems.  Each channel works different and sometimes it does not get posted.  When possible, we add a note to the “Special Announcement” section on our web page (www.holytrin.org),  make a post to our congregation’s Facebook page  (https://www.facebook.com/Holy-Trinity-Lutheran-Church), and change the announcement on our voice mail system for the church times.

THE LUTHERAN HOUR   Today on KURM (790 AM) at 12:30 P.M. & The Bott Radio Network at 8 A.M. on 89.3 F.M  “It’s Really Real”  Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hours:  Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus  Here’s the deal.  If Jesus actually rose from the dead, it would be wise to believe in Him because there will be salvation in no one else.  If He didn’t rise, we’re all toast.  Tune in to today’s message and hear why you can be confident Jesus’ resurrection if really real.  (1 John 1:1-3)

TRAINING OUR CHILDREN  Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)  We can all agree teaching children about the love of Christ and the salvation we have through him is very important. We are in need of a couple of teachers to share the love of Jesus to the lower (K-2nd) and upper (3rd-5th) elementary Sunday School classes. If you would like to learn more, there is a sign up sheet in the narthex next to an example of the lessons we use. The lessons are very straight forward and easy to navigate. If you have any questions contact cameron@holytrin.org or talk to the Education Team.

HELP NEEDED  One of our stalwart volunteers is under the weather.  We are looking for an office helper for Friday, April 20th and Friday, June 8th, at 1:00pm to assemble service leaflets and stuff News & Notes into mail boxes.    We also need a Greeter for Sunday, June 24th 10:45am service.   We need one counter for May 18th and June 24th and two couters for June 17th (that is Father’s Day).  Please let the office know if you can help with any of these dates.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH  Sometimes the unassiable sanctity of life goes unseen (John 20:25).  Sometimes age, appearance, ina- bilities, or errors seem to conceal it.  We do not need productivity, popularity, prospertiy, or prettiness to prove a person’s worth.  By becoming incarnate from conception to crucifixion, Jesus proclaims every one of us precious.  By resurrection and for giveness, Jesus pronounces even the least of these priceless (20:29)  Heavenly Father, enable us to believe and receive Your gifts even without seeing.  Amen.  (Easter II)

LIFE QUOTES  “Our Lord has written the promise of the Resurrection not in books alone, but in every leaf in the springtime.” Martin Luther    If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.or

THE LEGEND OF THE DOGWOOD

There is an ancient legend

That the dogwood tree once grew

As strong and sturdy as the oak,

As tall and stately too.

This noble monarch, towering high

In majesty and pride,

Was chosen to form the rugged cross

On which our Saviour died.

The tree was bitterly ashamed

That such a thing should be,

And Christ sought words of comfort

To console the sorrowing tree

He promised it should never grow

Large enough again

For such a use, but should become

A symbol among men …

It should be slender, twisted too,

With blossoms that would grow

To form the semblance of the cross

On which He suffered so …

With two short petals and two long,

And each fair petal too

Should bear the imprint of the nails,

Forever fresh and new.

A tiny crown of thorns should form

The center of each flower,

To symbolize the suffering

He knew in that sad hour.

Forevermore the dogwood tree

Should be revered, He said,

A true reminder of the cross

On which His blood was shed

And so ‑‑ with every new‑born spring --

Again the dogwood tree

Reminds us of His love… that lives

Through all eternity.

Every human being down to the teeniest and feeblest, since God made sure to incarnate Himself as embryo in Mary’s womb and then become completely helpless in crucified execution. How much do they matter? So much that Jesus redeemed them each and all, with His lifeblood as the price. Lord Jesus Christ, bring forth Your name from our lips so that it draws all people to You. Amen–– If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

THRIVENT CHOICE    This week is your last chance.  2017 Thrivent Choice Dollars expire on March 31, 2018  Remember to  direct your Choice Dollars before they expire.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH

“Moreover, when Christ, the Son of God, was to be conceived in His mother’s womb and become incarnate, He certainly had to be already present in essence and in person in the Virgin’s womb, and had to assume humanity there.”  Martin Luther (LW 37:62)

TO THINK ABOUT ....

“Jesus did not die on the cross just so we could live comfortable, well-adjusted lives. His purpose is far deeper: He wants to make us like himself before he takes us to heaven. This is our greatest privilege, our immediate responsibility and our ultimate destiny.”

                                           ~ Rick Warren

LIFE QUOTES  “Ultimately abortions are antithetical to the Gospel message the church proclaims, as we marvel over the fact that Jesus says to undeserving sinners: ‘I will lay my life down for my sheep,’ and so He did, taking on our sin and shame and the debt that stood against us and nailing it to the cross. Abortion instead demands of an innocent life, ‘You will lay your life down for me.’” Pastor Gunnar Ingi Gunnarsson, Loftstofan Baptistakirkja, Iceland –– If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

THRIVENT CHOICE    It's that time of year again!  2017 Thrivent Choice Dollars expire on March 31, 2018  Remember to  direct your Choice Dollars before they expire.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH

My body, my choice”; however, life is not for controlling but for offering and sharing (Mark 10:45). Our Creator bestows life as gift, promise, covenant, connecting us to Him and one another (Jeremiah 31:31-34). Broken covenants become cruel lords (Mark 10:42). Yet still Jesus enters our predicaments and understands our troubles (Hebrews 5:2, 7). No one suffers alone, and He remembers our sins no more. Eternal salvation results! Almighty Maker, enable us to share Your life with each other. Amen. (Lent V)

God Said No

I asked God to take away my habit.

God said, “No. It is not for me to take it away, but for you to give it up.”

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.

God said, “No. His spirit is whole. His body is only temporary.”

I asked God to grant me patience.

God said, “No. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations. It isn't granted, it is learned.”

I asked God to give me happiness.

God said, “No. I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you.”

I asked God to spare me pain.

God said, “No. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.”

I asked God to make my spirit grow.

God said, “No. You must grow on your own. But I will prune you to make you fruitful.”

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.

God said, “No. I will give you life so that you may enjoy all things.”

I asked God to help me love others, as much as He loves me.

God said, “Aha! Finally you have the idea!

LIFE QUOTES  “My heart goes out to those struggling with guilt from the secret sin of abortion—a burden carried by millions. These women and men should not be deprived of the forgiveness Jesus earned for them when they have a repentant heart. We need to speak up and let them know they can have the forgiveness Jesus bought for them through His life, death, and resurrection.” Virginia Flo, Lutherans For Life Regional Director of Minnesota –– If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

“If you want to hear God's voice clearly and you are uncertain, then remain in His presence until He changes that uncertainty. Often, much can happen during this waiting for the Lord. Sometimes, He changes pride into humility, doubt into faith and peace.”       -- Corrie Ten Boom

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH

“[Y]ou were dead in trespasses and sins…like the rest of mankind” (Ephesians 2:1, 3b). One’s own capacities or activities don’t give human life its value (Ephesians 2:9). The love of God in Christ does that, and it does so universally and infinitely (John 3:16). The very heart of the Gospel holds human life precious, even when impaired by infection or immaturity (Numbers 21:8). We rest refreshed in this grace!  Gracious God, cause fountains of Your grace to flow through us. Amen. (Lent IV)

TO THINK ABOUT

“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive.  He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love.  There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us.  When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.”

                 -- Martin Luther King, Jr.

TRAINING OUR CHILDREN  Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)  We can all agree teaching children about the love of Christ and the salvation we have through him is very important. We are in need of a couple of teachers to share the love of Jesus to the lower (K-2nd) and upper (3rd-5th) element-ary Sunday School classes. If you would like to learn more, there is a sign up sheet in the narthex next to an example of the lessons we use. The lessons are very straight forward and easy to navigate. If you have any questions contact cameron@holytrin.org or talk to the Education Team.

LIFE QUOTES  “When we pray the Lord’s Prayer, we ask God to ‘deliver us from evil.’ We ask Him to protect us against the callous evil of abortion, the taking of a human life. We are harnessed with the burden of belonging to a nation that practices this barbaric procedure and calls it a ‘right.’ May God have mercy on us.” Chaplain (Lt. Colonel) Steven Hokana, Assistant Director of Ministry to the Armed Forces (MAF) (LCMS) – If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

TO THINK ABOUT....

“Calvary shows how far men will go in sin, and far God went for man's salvation.”

                                                -- H. D. Trumbull

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH

God made a human body – even one crucifixion destroyed – His sanctuary (John 2:19). Is this why He bluntly forbids murder (Exodus 20:13), because every human body belongs to Him (Exodus 20:2)? Indeed, He has chosen what is weak, low, labeled “not a life” (1 Corinthians 1:27-28) to be His own forever. Neither sin nor flesh’s shortcomings nullify it.   Jealous God, possess us heart, body, and life that we may build up. Amen   (Lent III)

 TO THINK ABOUT....

Jacob was a cheater.  Peter had a temper.  David had an affair.  Noah got drunk.  Jonah ran from God.  Paul was a murderer.  Gideon was insecure.  Miriam was a gossip.  Mary was a worrier.  Thomas was a doubter.  Sara was impatient.  Elijah was moody.  Moses stuttered.  Zacheus was short.  Abraham was old and Lazarus was dead.  Despite all their excuses, God used each one to build His kingdom.  How about you?

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH

Some among us seek to sidestep suffering by being ashamed of Jesus’ words (Mark 8:32, 38) about life issues. But sharing in His cross has a hopeful purpose because it leads to eternal life (Mark 8:31, 35). Christ prevails with grace for those who are weak (Romans 5:6). So we rejoice even in our sorrows (Romans 5:3-5) and join others in theirs.   Dear Christ, take up our crosses that we may ease the burdens of the weak. Amen.  (Lent II)

SAVING GRACE is a Christ-centered home in Northwest Arkansas offering hope and transformation to young women lacking critical supports.  We provide relationships, skills, and resources to empower generational change.   We are committed to bringing about lifelong change that will not only impact the life of the young woman who calls Saving Grace “home,” but instill in her the things she needs to create a “home” for her own family someday.  We are changing lives for generations to come . . . and we don’t take the responsibility lightly!

LIFE QUOTES  “So when we see the embryo … in that petri dish—vulnerable, helpless, and destined for destruction—we are compelled to speak and defend and help. And not because it is the right thing to do or the moral thing to do, but because it is the Christ thing to do. Our God became incarnate as an embryo, giving value to all embryos.” Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, former executive director of Lutherans For Life. If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

SOULS HARBOR   Souls Harbor of Northwest Arkansas is a transitional community for men in recovery that provides a pathway to self-sufficiency by offering grace and guidance.  Their core values are:    We believe in … Service Above Self, Rebuilding Families, and A Faith-Driven Culture.  2017 was a year filled with success, blessings and growth for Souls Harbor.  Because of your generosity, we were able to provide care and services to over 44 residents and their families. The impact that Souls Harbor has on the men that we serve is life changing and would not be possible without your support.  Souls Harbor invests approximately $400 a month per resident to provide food, housing, utilities, education, and case management.  We rely on community support to sustain us.  In addition to monetary and in-kind gifts, we operate social enterprise programs, where the mission is the work force.  Our on-site community garden provides vegetables and “soul juice” that we sell at the Rogers Farmers Market.  Additionally, our wood sales were so successful that this will now be a year-round venture.  We invite you to come witness first-hand the fruits of your support. Please call Kim at 479-640-2888 to set up a time to come visit us.  You are very much appreciated, not just by our Board of Directors and staff, but by everyone your generosity touches.  We pray that you will be blessed, just as you have blessed others.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH

The only death necessary to save life is Christ’s. God sacrificed His Son so that no others would have to slaughter theirs (Genesis 22:12-13). Jesus also resisted (Mark 1:13) Satan’s quick-fix temptation to suicide (jumping from the temple). What He’s done for you, He does in you – enduring, escaping, overcoming. Because of this, you can receive even physical difficulty as a good gift from the loving Heavenly Father (James 1:17). Heavenly Father, deliver us from our efforts to deliver ourselves. Amen.

LIFE QUOTES  In a sense, that is where man is today … dead in sin, awaiting the Exodus led by the Son of Man, the new Moses, into eternal life, undoing the separation of soul and body at death. Lent (and the weakness of our mortal flesh) reminds us of this separation, our sin. Easter reveals to us the Exodus, Christ’s life that sets us free and brings us home.” James M. Kushiner, The Fellowship of St. James – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site: www.lutheransforlife.org

Are you God?

Joe was asked by a neighbor to drive her son to a hospital.  Although he had other things planned, Joe didn’t know how to say “No.”  So he put the child in the car and started on the 50-mile journey.  Suddenly the boy turned to him and shyly asked, “Are you God?”  Startled, Joe said, “No.”  The boy continued, “I heard Mom asking God for some way to get me to a doctor.  If you are not God, do you work for Him?”   Joe replied, “I guess so, sometimes.  And now that you ask, I’ll be doing a lot more of it.”
