NARTHEX MAILBOXES            The office staff is in the process of reorganizing mailboxes.  Please help us out by removing the contents of your mailbox.  Placement is the same for this Sunday, but we hope this project to be completed this week so your mail may not be in exactly the same location next week.  Please look carefully for your name.  If you are a newcomer, your mailbox has been placed alphabetically.  Why is it that the tallest of us always get mailboxes that are on the bottom and the shortest of us always get the very top tier?  In order to help some with that problem, the top tier of mailboxes will be taped off.  Also some mailboxes will be left unlabled to aid in assimilating newcomers.

UNITY SUNDAY  is next week, July 15.  There is one service at 10:00 A.M.  Instead of a HTY Café, we will have potluck dinner.  There will also be a voters meeting.  The agenda will include an update on improvement projects, the financial condition of the congregation, and projects on hold because of finances.

TODAY IS MISSION SUNDAY   We are happy to welcome Rev. Mark Hawkinson from KFUO Radio here for our Mission Sunday.  KFUO Radio is the longest running Christian station in America and is owned and operated by our Synod.   A door offering will be taken to support KFUO at each service.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL  Many of the volunteer roles have been filled for VBS but there are still areas where we need help! Check the Narthex board for Crew Leader sign ups or speak to Cameron if you would like to help at cameron@holytrin.org.

MID-SOUTH DISTRICT CONVENTION  meets this week in Memphis from Thursday through Saturday.  Pastor Besel and Duane Wright are our delegates.  They are leaving Wednesday.  Please keep the convention in your prayers.

A church paper reported a study from a woman who visited eighteen churches on successive Sundays.  She walked up and down the aisle and visited with people after each service.  She rated each parish on the following scale:

    10    — for a smile from a worshiper

    10    — for a greeting from someone sitting nearby

  100    — for an exchange of names

  200    — for an invitation to coffee or dinner

  200    — for an invitation to return

 1000    — for an introduction to another worshiper

2000    — for an invitation to meet the pastor

On this scale, all eighteen churches earned fewer than 100 points!   The “researcher” concludes:  “The preaching may be Biblical, the singing inspirational, the sermon uplifting, but when the visitor finds no one who cares whether or not she is there, she is not likely to come back.”

Go ahead and smile!  Show people that you (and your face) know about the love and peace of Christ Jesus!

OUR NEIGHBORS NEED SOME HELP   Samaritan Shop in Rogers is doing a big push this summer for volunteers to help sort and organize donations to be sold to fund several programs we have to feed the hurting and hungry in NWA. We can’t do this without the help of those ready to serve. We would love to have families, individuals and groups to come on mission right here in our community this summer whether it be one day or several weeks. LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH  Being Gospel-motivated voices for life gets frustrating when we don’t immediately see changed hearts and saved lives. But fathers both know and show that heroes are built over time, not born in a moment. We can take courage from God Himself patiently planting His own kingdom like seeds (Mark 4:26-28) and carefully cultivating it like saplings (Ezekiel 17:22-24). Boys become men, and stems will yield. This Gospel—for us too!—renews our life-affirming enthusiasm and routines. Ancient of Days, teach us to walk and talk and work by faith and not by sight. Amen.

A NOTE FROM CAROL LAPUTZ

Hi All

     Under went another IV dye CT Scan  2 weeks ago, which was done in more detail than the first scan.......this second scan did  NOT   see any metastasis of thyroid cancer.......but since the 1st scan was suspicious.... I have to have more scans every 6 months. RELIEF.
     Movers moved all my stuff into new house yesterday......have lots and lots and even more lots of boxes to unpack...but I am here...at last!!  I am exhausted...hurt... every part of my body is sore...but I am in my home...a home I plan on living in for 10-20 years...until I have a need to go to a nursing home.  Still have some 'touch up' jobs I want to do, i.e.  install a metal backyard fence, plant flowers, add a sidewalk  New address:.

WHERE’S PASTOR BESEL?  Pastor Besel is taking a Sunday of vacation today to attend the 45th Reunion of his graduation from St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas.  As part of the program, he is leading the worship this morning at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield.  He will be returning home this afternoon.

MARY HARTWIG MEMORIAL SERVICE   The Memorial Service for Mary Hartwig will be held this Saturday at 10 AM here at Holy Trinity.  The graveside service for Mary was held yesterday at Graceland Cemetery in her hometown of Webster City, Iowa.  Please note, we will be having pictures for the directory being taken down in the Chapel area of the building at the same time as the service.

Week of June 18th – Putting a float trip together sometime that week, probably that Wednesday, June 20th.  It will be during the day, leaving sometime early morning

June 24th – Nerf War at Church 12-2 pm.  Lunch will be provided.

Mary Kathryn Bealmer Hartwig was born on was born on October 30, 1935, in Webster City, Iowa to Alfred Wayne Bealmer and Mae Louise Hanken Bealmer.  Mary was reborn through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Webster City, Iowa on November 24 of the same year.  She confirmed her faith at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Woolstock, Iowa on April 10, 1949.  Mary was raised and educated in Woolstock, Iowa, graduating in 1953.  Mary and Gary R. Hartwig were united in marriage on September 18, 1966 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Woolstock and lived in the Story City and Stanhope, Iowa areas.  In 1985 the family moved to Bentonville where they owned the Avoca One Stop convenience store.  Mary was an active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rogers where she helped in the office.  She also started and coordinated the Prayer Shawl and Prayer Square Ministry.  Mary Hartwig died on May 24, 2018 at her son’s home in Bentonville, Arkansas at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 25 days.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Amy Hartwig, and her ex-husband, Gary.  Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Debi Hartwig of Bentonville; her grandchildren, Lauren and Miles Hartwig; numerous extended family members and many dear friends.  A graveside service for Mary was held on Saturday, June 2, at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City, Iowa. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Rogers with a reception to follow.  Memorials are suggested to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Music Department, PO Box 219, Rogers, Arkansas 72757.

THANK YOU  The Campus CONNECTion care packages were mailed to our college students at the beginning of May.  The packages included homemade cookies, store bought treats, a $10 gas card to help them get home, and a personal note from Pastor.  Thank you SO much Connie Heintz and Debbie Wilken for providing cookies for the care packages!  Thank you as well Christy Lehenbauer for using a Thrivent Action Team to cover the cost of packing materials and postage!!  The students LOVED the treats!  Most of the college students will be home soon – be sure to welcome them back to church when you see them!  If you would like to be involved in this outreach ministry, please contact Casey Bolte.

RESTORATION LUTHERAN SUPPORT BANQUET   By now we hope you have heard all about Pastor Ziscke's much needed mission plant in Fayetteville and the Banquet the district is having to support his ministry today, from 5-7 PM.  There is no cost to attend.  However, you need to be aware this is a support banquet where we will learn, in detail, about the ministry Pastor Ziscke is working on and be asked to support it financially.  If you are interested, please speak with Cameron or the church office. 

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING  The first emergency preparedness session for Ushers has been rescheduled to take place  today from 9:30am – 10:30am between the first and second service. The topic will be Medical Emergencies and will include training on first aid, CPR and the AED. The training will be completed in the Family Life Center.  Ushers, please mark your calendars and let Dave Ferguson know if you will be unable to attend.  Anyone who is interested in learning hands only CPR, etc. is invited to join us.

BIBLE CLASS   Pastor Besel is leading the Bible Class today in Classroom 1.  Part of the class will be deciding what we will study next.  There will be no class next week because of the Emergency Preparedness Training.  The new class will begin on May 27.

RESTORATION LUTHERAN SUPPORT BANQUET   By now we hope you have heard all about Pastor Ziscke's much needed mission plant in Fayetteville and the Banquet the district is having to support his ministry next Sunday, May 20th, from 5-7 PM.  There is no cost to attend.  However you need to be aware this is a support banquet where we will learn, in detail, about the ministry Pastor Ziscke is working on and be asked to support it financially.  If you are interested, please speak with Cameron or the church office. 

SUMMER CAMP COOK  The Lutheran Camp on Petit Jean is looking for a head cook with experience in a school kitchen or commercial kitchen for the months of June and July to cover staff training and eight sessions of summer camp. The head cook will have college-age assistants. The cook can stay on site in the Family Cabin, commute from home or some combination of the two. It’s a great way to serve God by serving His children. Kenneth Charles Sevick  was born on June 18, 1940 to Charles and Grace Sevick in Chicago, Illinois.  He was reborn through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at St. Constance Catholic Church in Chicago on July 1 that same year.  He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1957-1960.  He then went on to build Sevick Construction.  When life shifted gears, he went to school and became a certified photographer, after which he won many awards.  He belonged to Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of California, Inland Empire Professional Photographers and several other associations.  This was when he met his wife, Jenny.  In 1995, he was presented with the Paul Kennedy Award for “Outstanding Service to the Profession” (number 18 out of 25 given).   He reaffirmed his Christian faith through the Rite of Confirmation in March, 1998 at Atonement Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, California.  He and Jenny were married at the same church on December 8, 2000.  When another chain of events happened, he went back to school and became a chef and a pastry chef.  He started a company called “Delectable Desserts.”  Everyone, everywhere soon learned why a church member nicknamed him “The Cheesecake Man.”  He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  Ken died on May 5, 2018 at the Circle of Life Hospice home in Bentonville, Arkansas at the age of 77 years, 10 months, and 18 days.  He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.  Kenneth is survived by his wife, Jenifer Larson Sevick; two  daughters, Heather (Bo) Williams of St. Louis and Amanda “Mandee” Swanson of Los Angeles.  Also surviving him are his siblings: Robert (Laura) Sevick, Renee (Glenn) Bailey, Gail (Pat) Tuley, Gary Sevick, Grace (Steven) Schorr & Dawn Sevick; grandchildren: Madison Williams, Haley Williams, and Dexton Sanchez (due May 22, 2018); cousins: Allen Jaglowski, Jan Olesky, Ed Halter, Rosemary Eling, Margaret Stayart and Melody Rosin; and many nieces and nephews.  Because of his love of Southern California and the Pacific Ocean, his family will abide by his wishes to scatter his ashes there at a later date.  Yesterday we commended his cremains to the Lord’s keeping in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.

CONFIRMATION TODAY    During the 10:45 service today, Addison and Lizzie will be taking vows of faithfulness during the Rite of Confirmation.  During the Sunday School and Bible Class hour, at 9:30, they will give a testimony of their faith in the sanctuary.  That will be followed by a reception for them in the Life Center.  The Bible verses they picked for their confirmation passages are:  Addison Brooke Faust – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law”  (Galatians 5:22, 23), and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Lynn Gregory – “I will praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful … All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be”  (Psalm 139:14, 16b).

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING  The first emergency preparedness session for Ushers has been rescheduled to take place on Sunday, May 20thfrom 9:30am – 10:30am between the first and second service.  NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER   The National Day of Prayer is this coming Tuesday.  There is an insert with the News and Notes that has a prayer written for that day on the back.  There are also some tri-fold Prayer Guides on the table in the Narthex.  Help yourself to them.  We have also decided to have the church open that day from 6 AM – 8 PM for people to come and pray as they desire. 

MAYOR’S PRAYER BREAKFAST IS THURSDAY   The Rogers’ Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held this Thurday on the National Day of Prayer at Cross Church.  The doors open at 6 AM with the Breakfast line opening at 6:30 AM.  The Speaker is Governor Asa Hutchinson.  Holy Trinity is again sponsoring a table.   As of Wednesday, we had two seats still available.  If interested, sign up on the bulletin board and see Pastor Besel to get your ticket(s).

POST OFFICE FOOD DRIVE  Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America collect food donations from their postal customers, who participate in the NALC Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive – the largest one-day drive in the nation.  To donate, just place a box or can of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before your letter carrier delivers your mail on Saturday, May 12th.  The carrier will do the rest.  As part of this massive endeavor, Holy Trinity’s Food Pantry receives food donations from our friends at Rogers Post Office.  However, we need help.  On Monday, May 14th we need a driver with an open bed truck to pick up food from the Post Office.  After receipt of donations, we need at least 6 – 8 volunteers at the church to help look for expired items, and to sort and stock food in our pantry.  If you can help, a signup sheet has been posted in the Narthex, or if it is easier for you, just give the office a call at 636-1135.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

An Old Farmer's Prayer

A visiting pastor was attending a men’s breakfast in farm county.  He asked one of the impressive older farmers to say grace that morning.  After all were seated, the older farmer began:

“Lord, I hate buttermilk.”  The Priest opened one eye and wondered where this was going.  Then the farmer loudly proclaimed, “Lord, I hate lard.”  Now the Priest was really worried ... however without missing a beat, the old farmer prayed on, “And Lord, you know I don’t care much for raw white flour.”  Just as the pastor was about to stand up and stop everything, the farmer continued:  “But Lord, when you mix ‘em all together and bake ‘em up, I sure do love fresh biscuits.  So Lord, when things come up we don’t like ... when life gets hard ... when we just don’t understand what You are sayin' to us, we just need to relax and wait ‘til You are done mixin’ ... and probably it will be somethin' even better than biscuits.  Amen.”

POST OFFICE FOOD DRIVE  Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America collect food donations from their postal customers, who participate in the NALC Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive – the largest one-day drive in the nation.  To donate, just place a box or can of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before your letter carrier delivers your mail on Saturday, May 12th.  The carrier will do the rest.  As part of this massive endeavor, Holy Trinity’s Food Pantry receives food donations from our friends at Rogers Post Office.  However, we need help.  On Monday, May 14th we need a driver with an open bed truck to pick up food from the Post Office.  After receipt of donations, we need at least 6 – 8 volunteers at the church to help look for expired items, and to sort and stock food in our pantry.  If you can help, a signup sheet has been posted in the Narthex, or if it is easier for you, just give the office a call at 636-1135.  Your help is greatly appreciated. 

CAMPUS CONNECTion – Spring semester finals are just around the corner which means it’s time to send our college students a care package!  For those of you who signed up to help BAKE homemade treats, check your box in the Narthex for a note from Casey Bolte.  She needs the goodies by Sunday, April 29th in order to mail the packages on Monday, April 30th.  ALSO, we are sending a care package to Timothy Gibson – the son of Harry and Ann Gibson - who is currently serving in the military (Navy).  If you would like to financially support either of these efforts, please place a donation in the offering plate marked “Campus Connection”.  Thank you for your support!

MAYOR’S PRAYER BREAKFAST  The Rogers’ Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held on the National Day of Prayer, May 3, at Cross Church.  The doors open at 6 AM with the Breakfast line opening at 6:30 AM.  The Speaker is Governor Asa Hutchinson.  Holy Trinity is again sponsoring a table.  We have seven seats available.  Please sign up on the bulletin board if you want to join us at our congregation’s table.

GRADUATES   We are putting together a list of those graduating from High School and college this Spring.  If you have someone graduating in your family, please let Pastor Besel or the church office know which school they are at and when graduation is.

LIVING DISCIPLE CLASS  meets on Thursday evenings in Classroom 1 at 6:30.  There is still room in the class if you wish to join.  The schedule of lessons is posted on the bulletin board in the hall by Pastor’s office.

SPRING CONCERT  Bella Vista Lutheran Church has issued an invitation to our congregate members to join their choir in the presentation of a spring concert "Lift Up Your Eyes" on June 10th.  Rehearsals will be held on Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m. starting on April 21 and will continue every Saturday, with the concert being presented on Sunday, June 10th.  You are invited to join Bella Vista choir as they sing praises to our Lord.  If anyone has questions, please contact the Bella Vista Lutheran office at 855-0272.  Thank you.

TODAY IS UNITY SUNDAY   The Youth is hosting the HTY Café following the Worship service in the Life Center.  The menu includes Pork Tenderloin with mashed potatoes and asparagus, Chicken BLT with Avocado, chicken salad, hamburgers, chicken nuggets, and fries.  A free-will offering to support our Youth is requested for the meal.  There is also a brief Voters’ Meeting at the end of lunch. 

LUTHERAN CAMP ON PETIT JEAN  Today, is the early registration deadline for summer camp at the Lutheran Camp on Petit Jean. Parents can save $50 on each child’s camp session by registering and paying camp fees in full by next Sunday. Parents can register their children and pay online at the camp website. Details on camp sessions are also on the camp website: lutherancamp.org.  Thanks to grants and generous donors, additional financial aid is available for any families in need. Parents can email the camp office at director@lutherancamp.org to request a financial aid application.  The Lutheran Camp on Petit Jean is looking for a head cook with experience in a school kitchen or commercial kitchen for the months of June and July to cover staff training and eight sessions of summer camp. The head cook will have college-age assistants. The cook can stay on site in the Family Cabin, commute from home or some combination of the two. It’s a great way to serve God by serving His children. SAMSON TRIP    Date for the trip favors May 17th.  Still looking for more participants.  Total fare maybe approximately $75.00 per.  This will include ticket & bus.  We would leave HTLC at 12 N.  get to Branson by 2:30.  Show starts at 3:30 and is 2 hours in length.  We would be home by 8-8:30.  Suggestion: eat a substantial noon lunch and perhaps bring a snack for the way home to save time by not stopping at restaurant.  Comments call: Shirley  631-9971.   need phone #'s if not in directory.

LIVING DISCIPLE CLASS started last Thursday.  If you are interested, feel free to join them in Classroom 1 on Thursday evenings.  Class starts at 6:30 and runs about 90 minutes (longer if needed for discussion).  This is a follow-up class for the Connections Class and the Knowing God Class.  This class focuses on how we live as disciples of Jesus.  We will look at practical helps for studying the Bible, praying, worship, being witness for Jesus and stewardship.  A major part of the class will be looking at our ethics as Christians by looking in depth at the Ten Commandments.  If you are going to miss a couple weeks as we go into the summer, feel free to join us for the weeks you are here.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH  Almighty God calls us, even us, His own children (1 John 3:1).  He accepts us, adopts us, and adores us as helplessly dependent little ones.  Indeed, He made Himself jut such a child to show us how special this is!  Can we also look upon helpless and dependent persons—like embryos or incapacited patients—not in pity or competition but with Father-like appreciation?  If we see Him as He is, we shall become like Him (3:2)!  Omnipotent and gentle God, let no one deceive us about the value Your loves gives all humankind.  Amen.  (Easter III)

USHERS AND ELDERS   As part of our Safety procedures, Mike Nelson will be teaching hands only CPR and first aid training on Sunday, April 29th from 9:30 to 10:30 am (between services) in the Life Center.   We are asking all ushers and elders to attend.

TRAINING OUR CHILDREN  Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)  We can all agree teaching children about the love of Christ and the salvation we have through him is very important. We are in need of a couple of teachers to share the love of Jesus to the lower (K-2nd) and upper (3rd-5th) elementary Sunday School classes. If you would like to learn more, there is a sign up sheet in the narthex next to an example of the lessons we use. The lessons are very straight forward and easy to navigate. If you have any questions contact cameron@holytrin.org or talk to the Education Team.

BRANSON DAY TRIP   We will be able to secure a bus for a one day trip to see "Samson" at the Sight & Sound theatre.  It is a 56 passenger bus.  If interested please see the Interested sheet on bulletin board. Questions see or call Shirley Bernthal  (631-9971).

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH  Sometimes the unassiable sanctity of life goes unseen (John 20:25).  Sometimes age, appearance, ina- bilities, or errors seem to conceal it.  We do not need productivity, popularity, prospertiy, or prettiness to prove a person’s worth.  By becoming incarnate from conception to crucifixion, Jesus proclaims every one of us precious.  By resurrection and for giveness, Jesus pronounces even the least of these priceless (20:29)  Heavenly Father, enable us to believe and receive Your gifts even without seeing.  Amen.  (Easter II)

CONNECTIONS CLASS / BIBLE CLASS COMBINED   Because Pam Pickett returned last night from Israel, Pastor Besel is leading a combined Connection Class / Bible Class today in Classroom 1.   It is the final Connections Class and features the history of Holy Trinity.  Everyone is invited to join us.

(Proverbs 22:6)  We can all agree teaching children about the love of Christ and the salvation we have through him is very important. We are in need of a couple of teachers to share the love of Jesus to the lower (K-2nd) and upper (3rd-5th) elementary Sunday School classes. If you would like to learn more, there is a sign up sheet in the narthex next to an example of the lessons we use. The lessons are very straight forward and easy to navigate. EASTER BREAKFAST  Join the youth as they serve Easter Breakfast on Sunday, April 1st, at 8:15 A.M.  A free will offering is asked to support our Youth Group on their trip to Minneapolis in July of 2019 to the National Youth Gathering.  Email cameron@holytrin.org for any questions.

EASTER BREAKFAST DONATIONS  The Donation Slips are up and ready to go. If you would like to help out by providing some of the items that we will need for the Easter Breakfast, please take the slips as a reminder or as a shopping list and have the items in the kitchen by Good Friday as we cook on Saturday. The Easter Breakfast is the Youth Groups major fundraiser for the National Youth Gathering, which will happen in 2019 in Minneapolis. We are looking at 20+ youth and adults going to the NYG to share in that powerful experience which means we will need a support. If you have any questions talk to Cameron at cameron@holytrin.org.  

EASTER EGG HUNT  Attention Children of all Ages!  Eggs have escaped and we need your help to hunt them down.  The hunt will start at 9:00 am, Easter morning.  We will meet in the Narthex to prepare for the expedition.  Bring your biggest basket so you can capture as many of the fugitive eggs as possible!  See you there.

LENTEN SERVICES continue at our two Wednesday services at 10:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M.  as we look at the Violent Grace of Christ’s crucifixion.   The Lenten meal is available from 5:30 – 6:30pm.  This week’s meal is lasagna, salad, and bread and is sponsored by the Music Ministry Team Praise Band, and Handbell Choir. A special thank you to Paul Mayer for using a Thrivent Action Team to help with the cost of the meal.  All donations collected at the meal will be given to The Office of Human Concern to be used in their community outreach which includes Meals on Wheels, utility assistance programs, and senior activity centers.  This will be our last Lenten meal for this year as we begin Holy Week next week.

TRAINING OUR CHILDREN  Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)  We can all agree teaching children about the love of Christ and the salvation we have through him is very important. We are in need of a couple of teachers to share the love of Jesus to the lower (K-2nd) and upper (3rd-5th) element-ary Sunday School classes. If you would like to learn more, there is a sign up sheet in the narthex next to an example of the lessons we use. The lessons are very straight forward and easy to navigate. LENTEN SERVICES continue at our two Wednesday services at 10:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M.  The Lenten meal is available from 5:30 – 6:30pm.  This week’s meal is ChickFilA and is sponsored by the Education Ministry Team and Sunday School.  We appreciate Dean Eisma for using a Thrivent Action Team to help with the costs of the meal.  All donations collected at the meal will be given to Saving Grace in Rogers, AR.  Saving Grace is a Christ-centered home for young women who have aged out of the foster care system or are homeless.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY of Benton County, Inc. is a non-denominational Christian housing ministry with the objective of eliminating poverty housing from within Benton County and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience as well as action.  In addition to building houses, Habitat for Humanity helps to build relationships with families and the community that result in a sense of belonging to the community for the new homeowner.  If you wish to help with their Faith Build on March 15 in Bentonville, you may sign up on the bulletin board in the Narthex .

Some among us seek to sidestep suffering by being ashamed of Jesus’ words (Mark 8:32, 38) about life issues. But sharing in His cross has a hopeful purpose because it leads to eternal life (Mark 8:31, 35). Christ prevails with grace for those who are weak (Romans 5:6). The only death necessary to save life is Christ’s. God sacrificed His Son so that no others would have to slaughter theirs (Genesis 22:12-13). Jesus also resisted (Mark 1:13) Satan’s quick-fix temptation to suicide (jumping from the temple). What He’s done for you, He does in you – enduring, escaping, overcoming. Are you God?

Joe was asked by a neighbor to drive her son to a hospital.  Although he had other things planned, Joe didn’t know how to say “No.”  So he put the child in the car and started on the 50-mile journey.  Suddenly the boy turned to him and shyly asked, “Are you God?”  Startled, Joe said, “No.”  The boy continued, “I heard Mom asking God for some way to get me to a doctor.  If you are not God, do you work for Him?”   Joe replied, “I guess so, sometimes.  And now that you ask, I’ll be doing a lot more of it.”
