LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCHIncurable conditions can feel like the floods lifting their roar (Psalm 93:3). Complicated pregnancies can thunder. We get to remind sufferers how our Lord reigns over them, and He reigns in them. His blood frees us from our sins (Revelation 1:5). If even our guilt cannot hold back His angels from gathering His elect (Mark 13:27), then neither can any age, appearance, or ability limitations stand in the way.

LIFE QUOTES   “God is the ultimate Designer. He designed the greatest good the world has ever seen to come from the most heinous evil mankind has ever produced. You are never too stained for God to love. When you are feeling weak and foolish, give thanks to God for that, because that’s exactly the kind of person that God likes to use.” Rev. Dan Larsen is pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, Wabasso, Minnesota, and Trinity Lutheran Church, Sanborn, Minnesota –   If you wish to support this group, you may do so through their website: www.lutheransforlife.org

LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH Fathers consign their children to abortions (Mark 13:12). Children encourage their parents toward physician-assisted suicide. The latter days have come upon us. Let us hearten each other with the promise of resurrection, even for terminal illnesses, and with the assurance of forgiveness, even for violence against life (Hebrews 10:12). Let us confidently confess this hope in the face of crisis and panic, for the Holy Spirit Himself speaks new and eternal life in us (Mark 13:11)! Heavenly Defender, loose our tongues to declare Your purposes. Amen.  (Pentecost XXVI)

LIFE QUOTES   “When we see those suffering from disease or disability … vulnerable, helpless, destined by many to assisted suicide or euthanasia—we are compelled to speak and defend and help because it is the Christ thing to do. For Christ reveals a God who knows about suffering not just because He’s God, but because He suffered. We have a message of a God present in suffering, at work in suffering, and accomplishing His purpose in suffering.” Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, former executive director of Lutherans For Life  If you wish to support this group, you may do so through their website: www.lutheransforlife.org

TRUNK OR TREAT  A HUGE shoutout and thanks to everyone who helped with our Trunk or Treat this year. Thank you for understanding and being so quick to move inside. We had quite the turnout this year, possible because of the weather and our move indoors. I wanted to share with the congregation a message we received right after the event via facebook from a member of our community.

"Your church did an excellent job with the trunk or treat. presented the gospel and gave the children a good time even tho the weather was crummy.  Thank you, good job and well done my family and the community enjoyed it."

Thank you!!

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH    “Put not your trust in princes” (Psalm 146:3a). Neither stake yourself upon congresses or courts or physicians or popular opinions. None of these delays even their own death and only hastens the demise of others. Turn away from their life-shortening ways and take refuge instead in the God who made the universe. He who formed your body watches over the hopeless. He lifts up the lowly and saves life still. Lord Jesus, deliver into abundant and everlasting life all who cry out in desperation. Amen. (Pentecost XXV)

LIFE QUOTES   “God adopts. The Gospel is about adoption. Salvation’s story can’t be told apart from adoption. Christianity can’t happen without it … Pharaoh’s daughter adopting Moses leads to the Hebrews ending up liberated … Joseph adopting Jesus sets in motion sinners getting forgiven. Father Almighty offers His Son and adopts human beings for us to have a faith relationship with the Lord God and the hope of resurrection to everlasting life in His heavenly kingdom. No wonder early Christians opened the world’s first orphanages.” Rev. Michael W. Salemink, executive director of Lutherans For Life

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH    We get to love God not only in spirit but in the person of our neighbors (Mark 12:33). The same blood that makes Him our brother and us His children (Hebrews 9:12) also makes those around us into treasures and privileges. In protecting and providing for the least of these—uncertain parents, unresponsive patients, unborn embryos—the Kingdom Himself will never be far from us. Incarnate God, draw us into Your humility that our race be raised up. Amen. (Pentecost XXIV)

LIFE QUOTES   “How can we remain silent when life itself is in question? Standing firm and trusting in Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of life, and being willing to use our voices to speak up and share the truth about the value of human life are so very important as the world crumbles around us.”

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD  The national week of collection ends November 19th which means we need to start packing soon!  In the past, we’ve asked you to make bulk donations to be packed in the boxes and then a handful of us had a packing & wrapping party.  This year, in order to spread the fun of purchasing AND packing, we want YOU and YOUR FAMILY to take home a box or two.  Follow the instructions/suggestions on the handout and pack a box full of items YOU select!  Return the packed box(es) along with $9.00 per box for processing and shipping by Sunday, November 18th.  Because we are using the ‘official’ Operation Christmas Child boxes, there’s no need to wrap!!  Our goal is 100 boxes;  can you help us meet or exceed this goal??  If you have questions, please contact Cameron Pullmann.

ANOTHER THANK YOU  I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone for the prayers for my Mom , for me, and for my family, during my Mom's illness and the aftermath of her death .The sympathy cards, phone calls, emails, and all the support were deeply appreciated. I, particularly, would like to thank, Elaine Taylor, who covered the office, and also Joyce Bauer, who helped her. I appreciate the time to make arrangements, to celebrate Mom's life, to grieve, and to get over the  flu.

 Love in Christ,

Monday   2nd & 4th Mondays at 2:00pm. – Led by Vern Schaefer Rotating Hostesses: Herb & Shirley Bernthal, Spike & Dolores Hermes, Joe & Barbara Raleigh, Maxine Reihman & Betty Jensen

Tuesday  2nd & 4th Tuesdays @ 2:00 pm Pastor Bernthal’s Bible Class

GREETERS, READERS, VIDEO OPERATORS  The office is getting ready to schedule servers for Advent and Christmas.  Please let us know if you are AVAILABLE to serve.  Advent, Children’s Service, and Christmas Eve services are at 7:00 pm.  Christmas Day service is at 10:00 am (December 5, 12. 19, 24 and 25).   We are so thankful for all you do.

DECK THE HALLS   We need volunteers to help decorate the church for Christmas.  The tentative decoration date is Saturday, December 1st.  We will begin at 10:30am.  Decorating duties include (but are not limited to) fluffing bows and arrangements, sorting decorations, hanging decorations on the tree, attaching arrangements to the front of the pews, etc…  We also need one brave soul to go up the ladder and decorate the top of the tree.  When we have enough volunteers, this process is quick and easy – only lasting a couple of hours.  To volunteer, please contact Casey Bolte at (479) 644-3618. Thank you!!

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY  Arkansas Children’s Hospital Northwest has a “Faithful Friends Program” administered through their chaplain – Scott Martin.  The goal of the program is to provide a stuffed animal (Faithful Friend) and a colorful story book to newly admitted patients each weekday morning.  During the Outreach Ministry Team’s survey, we mentioned collecting stuffed animals to support this program.  Unfortunately, due to a death in the family, we were not able to start the collection as soon as we had hoped.  We are starting NOW!  We will collect NEW stuffed animals starting today through Sunday, November 18th.  Please place them in the Narthex below the mobile bulletin board with “OUTREACH” on it.  THANK YOU to all who donated immediately – those animals have already been given to the program as they were desperately needed.   If you have any questions, please contact Casey Bolte (479-644-3618) or Dave Lehenbauer (479-273-0213).

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH   St. Simon & St. Jude – If our life-affirming message meets with opposition, that doesn’t mean we’ve gotten it wrong. It ought not frighten us into silence but rather encourage us to persist. The fallen world and sinful flesh persecuted the prophets (Jeremiah 26:7-11), the apostles, the reformers, and even Jesus. He Himself has privileged us to minister His own truth and love (John 15:19). Humankind beholds in us the One they cannot overcome, Him who overhauls them! Compassionate Master, strengthen and sustain us in Your Gospel labor. Amen (Pentecost XXIII)

LIFE QUOTES   “God justifies sinners by grace through faith for Jesus’ sake. Salvation comes as a gift and not because of one’s own works. This truth stands at the heart of all Christians say and do … God’s graciousness governs how we engage life issues. Not only are human beings forgiven, redeemed, and resurrected by grace, but every human life is valued and beloved by grace—

TIME CHANGE  Daylight savings time ends at 2:00 A.M. next Sunday, November 4th.  FALL BACK!   Enjoy an extra hour of sleep and still be on time for Church.  Enjoy!

CONGRATULATIONS to Josh and LeAnn Girshner on the birth of their baby girl.  Welcome to Emberly Ann Girshner, born October 18th, 6 lbs 12 oz.  20 inches.

THANK YOU  The Fellowship team has worked hard to make the last Sunday with the Besel family memorable.  It has been such a pleasure to find such a giving congregation in all we have requested.   We especially want to thank Libby Garner and committee who planned and organized the meal of the day. Thanks to the team of cooks with Steve Jones and Reatha Bracht who coordinated the meats being cooked and served.   Thanks to Bettye Platt and committee who presented such a beautiful bouquet of flowers throughout the hall.  Thanks to the office staff; Krista Malone who pulled together all the photos for the great memories throughout the years and Elaine Taylor, who pulled together the guests list, written information and kept us all grounded. A great big thank you to the Elders under the leadership of Brett Garner who knew how to make Pastor Besel and Shirley’s day wonderful.  And thank you to everyone who attended the celebration event.

Fellowship team, Elaine Launderville and Shirley Bernthal

NEW MEN’S BIBLE STUDY STARTS TODAY.  Our study will focus on the book of Romans.  Martin Luther said this about the book of Romans—“This epistle is the real chief part of the New Testament, and the very purest Gospel, which deserves that a Christian not only know it word for word, but also deal with it daily as with the daily bread for the soul...”  Well, we won’t learn it word for word, but we will study it intently to see what God is telling us about Grace, love, Jesus, forgiveness, and a host of other important topics.  This first class will start at 9:30-ish and will continue for probably 12-15 weeks, which will take us thru the entire winter months.  Come and get your donuts, and a cup of coffee!  FORGET ABOUT HUNTING DEER—TAKE TIME TO HUNT THRU THE SCRIPTURE FOR REAL MEAT!!  PLEASE JOIN US—all you need to bring is your Bible.  God bless you guys in this study!!         Dave Lehenbauer

CONDOLENCES  We wish to offer our sympathy to Charles and Debbie Wilken upon the sudden death of their daughter, Stephanie Conner (a regular attender here) last Sunday.  She is also the sister of Chris Wilken.  A funeral service for Stephanie will be held here at Holy Trinity on Friday afternoon at 2 PM.  It will be officiated by her uncle, Rev. Russ Shewmaker, from Pilgrim Lutheran in Jonesboro.

TO THINK ABOUT

“It has been estimated that 99% of the things you worry about never happen.  And most of the things that do happen, happen so quickly that you never have time to worry about them in the first place.”

                                       - Brian Tracy

“If we focus on difference, our focus is on each other.  If we focus on unity, our focus is on God.”       - unknown

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH   Our rights can’t acquire heaven. Our choices won’t achieve any salvation for us. “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God” (Mark 10:27). If our Savior’s words can gather us into the everlasting kingdom, how will His ways not also resolve and redeem all our hopeless circumstances, like terminal diagnoses or surprise pregnancies? Heavenly Father, give us faith that seeks life wherever You have sown it. Amen. (Pentecost XXII)

LIFE QUOTES   “So, let us say yes to the opportunities before us that God has prepared for us to do! To say ‘Here We Stand’ … in defense and protection of the precious and vulnerable human lives that are the handiwork of God from the moment of conception to natural death.”  Lynette Auch, president Lutherans For Life –If you wish to support this ministry, do so through their website:  www.lutheransforlife.org

A Useful Vessel

It’s not what we keep but what we share.

Not what we have but what we spare.

Not what we clasp but what we lose.

Not what we hide but what we use.

A vessel He will make of you.

If small or great, ‘twill surely do—

Great joy and peace will always fill

The one who’s yielded to His will.

HEY MEN—on October 21st we will begin the Men’s Bible classes again. PLEASE JOIN US ON OCTOBER 21st—all you need to bring is your Bible.  God bless you guys in this study!!         Dave Lehenbauer

DAILY BREAD PRAYERS   The following prayers will written by members of the confirmation class as they studied the Lord’s Prayer’s petition on “Give us this day our daily bread”:

Prayer 1

Dear God, thank you for all our great friends that help us in all our hard times. Thank you for the church where we learn about you. Thank you for our parents who take care of us no matter what. Thank you for all our siblings who are so helpful, Amen.

Prayer 2

Thank you for my dog, even though she can be mean sometimes, she is cute. Thank you for my cat, he's the best fuzzball in the west. Thank you for my warm and safe shelter and home, Thank you for my dad that is helpful and cool. I am also thankful for the environment that you have given us to hunt in. Amen.

LIFE QUOTES   “Look at your infancy and give thought to whether you remember that you were in your mother’s womb, that you lay in a cradle, that you sucked your mother’s breasts, cried, ate pap, grew, etc. Yet we are certainly alive even during the first year, when the fetus is carried in the mother’s womb.” Martin Luther (LW 5:75) –If you wish to support this ministry, you can do so through their website:  www.lutheransforlife.org

Moses echoes the emotions of sudden pregnancy, chronic conditions, and advocating for life among communities that ignore. “You’re not alone,” says the Lord (Numbers 11:16, Mark 9:40, James 5:14). “Lean on my people.” Jesus Christ goes with you. The communion of saints shares your joys and sorrows. Sometimes speaking up for life starts with approaching the lonely. Lord of the Church, cause our fellowship to show Your love. Amen (Pentecost XIX)

ELDER UPDATE ON PASTOR SEARCH

We want to keep everyone up to date with what we are doing to replace Pastor Besel after his retirement on October 21st.  On August 7, 2018 the Council and Elders met with President Paavola of the Mid-South district to plan for a replacement for Pastor Besel after his retirement. President Paavola suggested we consider an interim Pastor. His experience suggests that after a pastor has been at a congregation as long as Pastor Besel has been at Holy Trinity, the possibility for success of the new pastor is very low.  Pastor Besel agreed with President Paavola based on what he has seen at other churches.

After our meeting the Council and Elders agreed to call an interim Pastor. The interim Pastor would be here for 18 months and then we would call a permanent Pastor. It will take approximately 3 to 4 months to call the interim Pastor. We have to complete a congregational survey to find out what we are looking for in a new pastor, submit the information to the Mid-South District and they will match Holy Trinity to a group of Pastors who fit our criteria, and then our call committee would interview the candidates and call the interim Pastor. This would be the same process for our permanent Pastor. In most cases we would NOT be able to call the interim Pastor as our permanent Pastor.

In the mean time we would have visiting Pastors to conduct our weekly services.  If you have any concerns or input, please feel free to contact you Elder or Council members.  We will keep you informed on our progress.   Please pray for GOD to lead the right Pastor to Holy Trinity.                       --Brent Garner, Chairman, Elders

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH  Everyone who loves the Lord God also loves His little ones (Mark 9:37). Every child is a treasure. Every person, especially the vulnerable, is our neighbor. Every life, even the feeblest, is gift and privilege from above. Life-or-death situations allow opportunity for us to receive them—see them, be seen with them, meet their needs. The Gospel of Jesus Christ means life with a Father and His family. Father in heaven, assist us to receive Your little ones. Amen.  (Pentecost XVIII)

LIFE QUOTES   “Are you afraid of commitment and ‘belonging’ to other people? Relax. It’s how your Creator designed you. When you call a sick friend, send a card, congratulate an achiever, encourage a drooper, pursue a stray, or teach a child, you will feel a satisfaction in your heart that not even the devil can steal.” Rev. An Offertory Prayer

Loving Creator, You have generously and graciously given us blessing after blessing, gift after gift, kindness after kindness.  Your steadfast love and amazing grace abound in our lives.  You are awesome, and we are humbled and deeply grateful.

Now we give our tokens of love and appreciation to You.  First, we offer our grateful hearts, minds and souls.  Receive our praise and thanksgiving.  We also offer the gifts of our labor, our monetary offerings, and our pledge of talent, time and service.
Help us to be dedicated servants for You in our daily lives so we may be more worthy of the life You have given us.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

SUNDAY SCHOOL STUDENTS will be singing "He's Got the Whole World" at late service on Sun., Sept. 30th. We would LOVE to have your child join us! We will practice during Sunday School openings on Sept. 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th. Contact LeAnn Girshner with any questions.

MILITARY BIBLESTICKS   Over the last several years, the members and friends of Holy Trinity have provided Military Biblesticks for 357 servicemen.  These Biblesticks are only available through military chaplains.  So far this year, churches have provided 120,000 Biblesticks for chaplains to give away.  They currently have requests for 17,000 more at $25 each.  There is a donor who is matching all the gifts in August and September.  If you want to provide one or more, today is the last day to place your gift in the offering plate.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH  Ancient societies often avoided demon-possessed persons (Mark 9:17-18, 22). “It’s your problem, not my business. Don’t bother me, deal with it yourself.” The modern mantra, “Your body, your choice,” tells the same lie. When we keep silent and still on life issues, we only confirm this devilish deception. Christians get to speak with Christ’s courage and reach out in God’s compassion: “You matter. We’ll help” (Isaiah 50:4). O Lord, loose our tongues to declare Your mighty deeds. Amen.

(Pentecost XVII)

LIFE QUOTES   “Oh, how the believer in Christ needs to remember that Christ lives within. This is no longer my life, it is Christ’s. Yes, you live in the midst of a battle between the culture of death and the culture of life. Stand firm in Christ, where the abundant life has always been and always will be!” Rev. Lyndon Korhonen, president of the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • If you wish to support this ministry, you may do so through their website.

PASTOR’S RETIREMENT DINNER  Plans are well underway for Pastor’s Dinner Party on October 21st.  Please let us know if you plan to attend (and the number in your group who will be attending).  A signup sheet is on the bulletin board in the Narthex, but if you get distracted after church, just email the office at office@holytrin.org or call us at 636-1135.  Our plans are to make this a special event, and we certainly do NOT want to run out of food, so your RSVP is essential.

CAMP TRINITY   The Lutheran Camp on Petit Jean is now Camp Trinity. The board voted to change the camp name in glory to God – Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier – and in honor of the generations of faithful followers of Christ who worshiped at Trinity Lutheran Church for a century before the creation of the camp. The church, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is now fully restored to its original condition and appearance. (“Lutheran Camp on Petit Jean” will remain the camp’s corporate name, dba Camp Trinity.)

Come hear some of the most talented church musicians in Arkansas as they bring glory to God at the first-ever Battle of the Praise Bands. The contest is Saturday, Sept. 29, at Camp Trinity, the Lutheran camp on Petit Jean Mountain. Admission is free. You can enjoy barbecue dinners and concessions, games for the whole family, and tours of the camp to see the most recent improvements. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

THE LUTHERAN HOUR   Today on KURM (790 AM) at 12:30 P.M. & The Bott Radio Network at 8 A.M. on 89.3 F.M. The Changeless Christ for a Changing World" Guest Speaker: Dr. Walter A. Maier  In a classic message first heard in 1937, Dr. Walter A. Maier tells how Christ comes to us in our world of change and decay with a message of unchanging hope.

LIFE QUOTES   “The culture of life respects human life at all its stages, recognizing that those who have lived long and well have much to offer those who are just beginning their journeys on this earth. Not only should the young respect the aging, but the elderly should also respect themselves with the honor God says is due them. If Grandpa is too weak to work, he is not too weak to pray. Let us cherish our parents and grandparents as they intercede on our behalf and pass down to their children’s children the wisdom of the Lord.” Ryan C. MacPherson, Professor at Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, Minnesota – If you wish to support this ministry, you may do so through their web site:  www.lutheransforlife.org

PRAYER PALS    We really need a few more prayer pals for Head to Heart Confirmation this fall and spring. Talk to Cameron or the office if you are interested.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH Abortions, assisted suicides, and embryo-destroying experiments all discriminate. These actions assign value according to age, appearance, ability, environment, or history. The Gospel of Jesus Christ eagerly dispenses with such partiality (James 2:1, 5). The Word of His grace proclaims life to those in need and then performs it with and for them (James 2:17-18). How may we echo and imitate this miracle in our neighborhoods? Humble Lord Jesus, teach us poverty of pride that we may obtain riches in relationships. Amen.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH –– Life issues can present great temptations. The complications of surprise pregnancies pressure folks into adding to God’s Word. Infertility and terminal illnesses steer many toward subtracting from the Lord’s commands (Deuteronomy 4:2). Still, He who takes ownership of the inner life by His forgiveness also takes responsibility for the body’s survival by His resurrection. His presence and promises arm and guard against every threat (Ephesians 6:11). Good Shepherd and Guardian, give security to us and through us in Your words. Amen.

Amen.. (Pentecost XV)

COMMUNICANT MEMBER SURVEY  The recent mailing of the Communicant Survey  about what you are looking for in a pastor was intended for EACH Communicant Member.  Yes, that includes Confirmed young adults in the household.  The computer system, in its infinite wisdom, only mailed one survey per household.  (Yes, I could have changed that, but I missed it – Mea Culpa).  Extra copies of the survey have been placed on the table in the Narthex.  Please help yourself to as many copies as needed by your family.  There is a basket on the same table which can be used for completed surveys.   – Elaine Taylor

Dr. Ken Klaus: Far too many people assume there are differences in commercial products, political candidates and school systems, but these same people believe all religions are the same. Today we join with the Apostle Paul in praying people may discern what is best when it comes to their Savior. (Philippians 1:9-10)

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH ––Matters of marriage, sexuality, and procreation are not marginal to the Christian message. Husband, wife, and children capture the heart of the Gospel in their unconditional acceptance and self-sacrificing servanthood (Ephesians 5:31-32). Indifference or abuse to family structure diminishes our life-saving witness. Celebrating and exercising these gifts will strengthen all other social institutions as well. Heavenly Bridegroom, charm us into enthusiastically submitting to Your will. Amen.. (Pentecost XIV)

As Christ, we get down in the ditch with them. We offer healing that can only come from the objective and complete forgiveness in Christ. We lift them up and walk beside them.” Rev. Dr. James I. ISRAEL BIBLE STUDY Pam Pickett starts a new Bible study class today.   It will be a combination of showing vacation pictures from Israel, a little history and diving into scripture all at the same time.  Huh?  Here is what it will look like – we will take a place in Israel, let’s say Kursi.  Pam will explain what the place is significant for in the Bible (the place where Jesus restores the demon-possessed man and sends the demons into a herd of pigs).  She will show pictures of what it looks like today, talk about how archeologists found pig bones on this side of the Sea of Galilee but not the other, proving this is where the Gentiles lived.  Then we will open our Bibles to the story, read it, discuss it and think about what it means for us today.  After that we will move on to the next place.  This group will meet in Classroom 1.

RECYCLE, IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO   The trustees have asked us to remind the congregation of the need to recycle cardboard, paper, and aluminum cans. The Youth has three containers throughout the church for cans and the bins in the Giving Center are available for paper.  There is also a recycle container in the work room and a place for cardboard.   This is especially important now because the church is cutting back to one dumpster as a cost cutting move.  If this bin is overfilled the church will be charged extra.

THE LUTHERAN HOUR   Today on KURM (790 AM) at 12:30 P.M. & The Bott Radio Network at 8 A.M. on 89.3 F.M. In Your Light We See Light"
Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer
Meditation is time to think, and Christian meditation thinks about God in the light of Jesus Christ. It is "a lamp to our feet and a light to our path."

Neil Vanderbush, will lead the worship service at 10:30 A.M.   There will also be a celebration luncheon following the service.  If you plan to attend, let them know at 479-451-0021.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH –– Even out of Jesus’ mouth the Gospel causes offense (John 6:61, 66). Yet to whom else shall we go? Shall we take refuge in the empty, ever-changing trends of politically correct popular opinion? Only the Savior speaks life—abundant life, eternal life, life for free, life for all (6:63). If our words do not declare and deliver life, they do not come from the Lord. O Wisdom from on high, let Your goodness fill our hearts and mouths. Amen. (Pentecost XIII)

Tell those who are worried about the future that you are praying for them and that God has good plans for them. And don’t forget the simple fact that just listening to others and letting them know you care may be all they need. Listen to your Savior encouraging you in His Word and you will be well prepared to encourage others.” Rev. Jonathan M. Kruschel, St. John Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, Minnesota. THE LUTHERAN HOUR   Today on KURM (790 AM) at 12:30 P.M. & The Bott Radio Network at 8 A.M. on 89.3 F.M. Pigeonholed”  Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hour:  Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus—Just when you think you are getting to know Jesus, He says something which can confuse.  Today the world remains confused about God’s Son, our Savior.  That’s because Jesus refuses to be pigeonholed by the world’s desires or expectations.  He’s God’s Son, Who has come to save humankind.  Anything else, or different than this, is simply unacceptable.

(John 6:42)

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH.   The antidote to despair is not autonomy (1 Kings 19::4).  God only gives (or reserves!) daily bread to draw hearts into the bakery and unto the Bread-Maker (John 6:35, 44).  He has designed human beings for community (1 Kings 19:7), and our opponent has no countermeasure for compassion.  When we don’t apathetically abandon those facing life-or-death situations but instead embrace and assist, we receive them as treasures from heaven.  Giver of Life, strengthen us to strengthen others with Your ways.  Amen.  (Pentecost XII)

GREETERS, READERS, VIDEO OPERATORS, OFFICE HELPERS, COUNTERS  We are looking ahead to fourth quarter scheduling.  If you have vacations or other obligations planned during October, November, and December, please let us know.  We will not schedule you at times you specify.  Thanks for looking ahead and for all you do.

LIFE QUOTES   “When the end of life is near, may we be willing to speak up for those who are the most vulnerable here as well.  States across this nation are considering legalizing assisted suicide.  We have a voice.  We need to use it!  Do not let the voice of the evil one be the most vocal.  Be voices For Life!”  Virginia Flo, Lutherans For Life Regional Director of Minnesota.  If you wish to support this ministry, you may do so through their web site:  www.lutheransforlife.org

THE LUTHERAN HOUR   Today on KURM (790 AM) at 12:30 P.M. & The Bott Radio Network at 8 A.M. on 89.3 F.M. And the Pursuit of Happiness" Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer When the main goal in life is your happiness, you've turned in on yourself and away from others, especially God. Turn from yourself to Jesus and you'll know a peace that surpasses all understanding, and that is the basis for true lasting happiness. (Exodus 16:2-15; John 6:22-35)

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH ––. Crafty deceitfulness tosses many about concerning life issues (Ephesians 4:14). Christians see more than debates and regulations. At stake are safety and eternity for members of our one body in Christ (4:16). For their sake we speak and show truth in love (4:15) according to our God-given vocations (4:11-12). We take courage that it changes hearts and saves lives even if we suffer for it (4:1). Bread of Life, build us into a body of hope. Amen.

LIFE QUOTES   “We are not engaged in a battle for lives but souls. We fight for the souls that drift from the faith in their pursuit of abortion, and we battle for souls who do not yet know Christ as their Savior. It is our primary vocation because the evidence is clear. Society as a whole has no trouble ending human life it no longer values. We restore the value to human life when we venerate the place of its Creator.” Rev. Robert Fleischmann, national director of Christian Life Resources – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • If you wish to support this ministry, you may do so

 through their web site:  www.lutheransforlife.org

New Bible Class  Starting on August 19th Pam Pickett will begin a new class.  We will study “Places in Israel”.  Using photos of my trips to Israel we will look at a place in Israel, what does it look like now, what is the significance of it, the history and then dive into our Bibles to look at the Scripture associated with it.  For example:  Kursi, what is this place known for? (where Christ made the demons leave a man and go into a heard of pigs).  Answer questions like how do we know this is the spot, here is what it looks like now and then from Scripture what can this story teach us?  How can it apply to our lives today?  We will meet in Classroom 1.  I look forward to seeing you then, if you have any questions just let me know.  Thanks, Pam

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH – St. Mary Magdalene – Mary had carried the weight of seven demons (Luke 8:2). No doubt they shouted to her about guilt and pounded her heart with grief. NARTHEX MAILBOXES            The mailboxes have been reorganized.  Areas have been taped off and we should be good for another year.  Please take a little extra time to look for your name.  Some of you will be in approximately the same area while others will have moved to a new section.  If you have any problems, please call the office during the week at 636-1135.  Hopefully we did not miss anyone, but let us know if we did.

Meyer.  Emotions often drive our lives. When we think about our feelings in light of the Word of God, we are led to Jesus our Savior, but ignoring God's Word makes life a soap opera mess.

LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH  Adoption embodies the whole truth and love of God (Ephesians 1:3-5). He came into our flesh, gave it as lifeblood sacrifice, and raised it up from restful death just to adopt sinners as His own sons and daughters. Christians promote and pursue adoptions not primarily as a solution to infertility but as extension of the grace we’ve received to our neighbors in need.   Ever-present Lord, open our eyes and our arms to the ones left forsaken by the devil’s deceptions. Amen. (Pentecost VIII)

GARDEN TABLE AVAILABLE   If you have extra produce from your garden that you want to share with other people, you are invited to put them on the counter in the Giving Center in the Narthex.   Feel free to help yourself to anything placed on the Garden Table.  Reminder, first come, first served.

FOSTER CARE   There is a crisis in Arkansas with children who need foster care but not enough families willing to offer that care.  There is a ministry called “The Call” which helps people interested in providing foster care in Northwest Arkansas.  There are a couple of flyers at the Giving Center from them if you are interested in more information.

LIFE QUOTES   “We need to embrace the God Who is found in suffering. He is the man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. He’s the Lord who was impaled on a cross. We’d rather Jesus be mild-mannered and mild-tempered, and we’d rather listen to Him preach about lilies in a field of flowers. We don’t want to go down that hard path of Calvary. But once we do, I think then we can gain compassion. Because compassion means ‘with suffering.’ Christian compassion means suffering with the sufferings of Christ.” Joni Eareckson Tada – If you wish to support Lutherans for Life, you can through their web site www.lutheransforlife.org

TO THINK ABOUT

“For some years now I have read through the Bible twice every year.  If you picture the Bible to be a mighty tree and every word a little branch, I have shaken every one of these branches because I wanted to know what it was and what it meant.”

 - Martin Luther
